Elaya Ice's Journal, 22 June 2018

I been trying to eat my meals slower the past couple of days. I have a tendency to gobble up my food in 10 minutes or less. Now I am taking sips of water between bites and chew a bit slower. As a result it has helped with my food cravings, since most of the time I want something yummy in my mouth. With the slowed pace it now takes 20 minutes to eat, and less food thoughts. Not sure if this trick will help all of you, but I thought I would give a share.

I am also trying to do this - mostly bc I eat so fast that I’m still hungry when I finish. I’m learning that the full feeling doesn’t come until 15 min or so after eating.

Good idea! I do something similar with exercise. If I want a snack, I have to clean something in the house (sweep the floor, wipe down the counters, etc.). I'm finding more and more that once the cleaning is done I really don't want a snack after all; I was just bored.

I know a group that teaches the fast eaters to use chopsticks....

Lols. Problem is I am good with chopsticks and eat with them every morning.

I agree with you 100% I just wish I could do it. I have tried. I will try again.

My mom used to tell me to eat with chopsticks, but she must have been telling herself. I learned to use them as a child in 1970 and can shovel food just as fast with chopsticks as with any fork. My tip for slowing down eating is to eat with friends and discuss a passion.

A tip I use is to put my food/fork down between bites. That helps to slow down also.

@moogiemynes - Haha I am the same. Learned how to eat with chopsticks in the 70's also and can eat just fine with them. And it does not help that I am usually eating fried rice :(

I've tried slowly eating and chewing my food. I know that's what you should do. Especially, if you don't want your food to be stuck in your chest. It happens to me sometimes. But, it takes so long. When I'm hungry, I just can't spend all that time chewing. I need the food in my stomach asap.
