Sparks1971's Journal, 19 June 2018

I'm not sure if I should switch diets, I don't really know if choosing a diet on the web site affects anything, but one meal a day more fits how I am eating. If I eat outside the one hour eating window then it should be straight up fat and a tiny bit of protein - no carbs (so keto still fits too).

Klynn, you missed the point of the "rabbit" argument, which is to say that a SPECIES as a WHOLE will react in predictable ways to certain foods. Please go back and re-read what I said so that you may understand that point. Our bodies were designed to be ABLE to eat animal proteins if need be, in times of necessity. However, that is not the optimal human diet. Humans can acquire, easily, everything they need from non animal products. Even thousands of years ago.

Rabbits are herbivores, humans are omnivores, you miss and fail, Samantha.

Phil, 61,000 people combined are not anecdotes, that is actually called a study. You and some others have yet to defend your points in a way that did not include insults. Insults do not prove your point, but they do make it look like you've forfeited the debate.

lmao @jimmiepop preach it. my mom is a vegetarian but it's because she can't stand the taste of meat, she doesn't act like it's a religion above God lol. (not religious just saying as an example lol)
No, I didnt miss it, what I said was as a species, humans have a different make up than rabbits, you cannot compare the two. Apples vs Oranges. Im not arguing with you, I dont care what you eat or what you dont, I am just saying that there are studies that have proven time and time again that Keto is advantageous for some people, key word there is SOME, not all. We are all different. Have a nice day.

I'm not debating you, Samantha. You're wrong. End of discussion.

Meg, there will always be fringe cases. Epileptics and cancer patients I must concede to you on. As other studies have pointed out, keto is good for extreme cases and under close supervision, such as in the case of epileptics. However, regular people are trying this fad diet with no supervision and eating in a way that will lead to health risks down the road.

Once again, you missed the point. I never said rabbits and humans eat the same things. How about I make a different comparison using the same words so that you may understand. Lions as a SPECIES are CARNIVORES, and if you feed 1,000 lions large amounts of VEGETABLES, SOME will die quickly and SOME will take a little longer to die. However, they will all, as a species, show negative health effects long term. Do you see? I never said humans are herbivores, I was demonstrating how a species will almost always react in predictable ways long term.

Blah blah blah, always the same with people that want to change other people's behavior. I don't give a damn what you eat, either, Samantha, kindly extend other people the same courtesy.

Phil you have never brought any intelligent discussion to this and therefore concede that you are wrong or are ignorant to the facts. Which is fine. I will respond to you again when you bring forth intelligent discussion.

Studies Support Low Carb Ketogeinc Diet Many Times Over There have been many randomized controlled trials published since 2002 in respected, peer-reviewed journals that show low carb diets and particularly the ketogenic diet to be effective for weight loss and completely safe without a single adverse effect, this cannot be said about many of the "fad" diets. Additionally, many studies show that by reducing carbs people have better results in both weight lost and in support of heart disease prevention and many other health conditions than the typical low fat plan. The keto diet leads to more weight loss, especially visceral fat, and also helps to improve HDL cholesterol, insulin levels, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure.

Being diabetic offers extra challenges and I would go “old School” and discuss your concerns with your Dr. He or she will want to check your blood work more frequently and adjust your medications as your weight and numbers change.

Oh my - I really wanted to stop commenting on this thread - but once you wrote "fad diet" I wanted to scream. You are misinformed. Keto has been used in medically supervised conditions for almost 100 years to treat many conditions. You Do You and stop judging others. That is my real issue - Sparks1971 does not need people like you undermining her way of life and choices. DO your thing and allow others to do theirs. You will not convince people that your beliefs are the "right" way.

I concede that you're a complete tosser, obviously with no formal education. You cited a study that's nothing but anecdotal, and statistically insignificant. Why don't you go preach elsewhere, there's nothing to debate, no one to persuade, I say, "find a way of eating that suits your lifestyle", you say, "eat the way I tell you to", I doubt if anyone is going to side with you.

"A ketogenic diet could be an interesting alternative to treat certain conditions, and may accelerate weight loss. But it is hard to follow and it can be heavy on red meat and other fatty, processed, and salty foods that are notoriously unhealthy. We also do not know much about its long-term effects, probably because it’s so hard to stick with that people can’t eat this way for a long time. It is also important to remember that “yo-yo diets” that lead to rapid weight loss fluctuation are associated with increased mortality." "Ketogetic diets show very good weight loss and blood sugar control in the short term, however, these effects are diminished in the long term, and the difference in weight loss over time" compared to other diets disappears over time. "The positive aspects of a ketogenic diet are spoken about much more than the drawbacks."  "We really don't have any long-term research about how keto followers fare 10, 20, 30 years down the line." The keto diet IS a fad diet.

I set my Diet to "my own diet" - I really don't think it effects anything on the site. and in reality I am on my own "diet".

Oh, the keto diet may be hard to follow, how scary. Regain for any and all diets is in the 90% range, making them ALL yo-yo and fad. Again, kindly, Samantha, piss off.

HCB, actually the ketogenic diet was introduced in the 1920s as a way to treat epilepsy and then fell out of popularity with the introduction of anti-seizure drugs until more recent times where for most people it is a fad. We are not talking about seizure patients, we're talking about the general public. And I have never judged or insulted anyone in this comment section, in fact, the opposite has happened. It seems some of the keto supporters only have insults for me from the beginning of the discussion. I never undermined her way of life. I politely warned her to be careful of a ketogenic diet and to instead look into a whole food plant based diet. That is not judging.

Samantha is obviously unfamiliar with William Banting, not surprising considering the demonstration of a lack of education she's put on here.

Once again you have only insults.
