Day 3 of a planned 5 day 'no solid food fast'

Blood sugar 87 mg/dL

🧘🏾‍♂️ Still trying to work off that 10lbs gain from my 4 day vacation this past weekend. Glad the scale is finally moving. The big test will be, if I do the same thing today that I have done the past two days, will the scale continue to move? If that is the case, then it means that my body needed a few days to recover from the 700 carb 'Binge'.

However, even with the "Blowout" binge eating this past weekend, so far, my averages are still in range:

🌟 August: 1446 Calories 64 Carbs 127 Protein
🌟 September: 1541 Calories 57 Carbs 124 Protein

This insight is only possible because I logged my food every day (to the best of my ability).

🏋🏾 Carbs help me ‘Lift Heavy’. Yesterday I did the second day of an unusual back-to-back weight lifting session at 48 hours fasted. I was able to still mostly lift what I did on Monday, which was an improvement over my numbers of last week (before I gained 10lbs from the 700 carb 'Binge'), but I was -barely- able to get through 3 sets of:

💪🏾 Bench Press – Previous: 85lbs Now: 90lbs (10 reps)
💪🏾 Squat - Previous: 140lbs Now: 160lbs (10 reps)
💪🏾 Shrug - Previous: 140lbs Now: 160lbs (10 reps)

The test will be Thursday when I am 96 hours fasted. If I can maintain even 90% of these massive gains in the gym, I may have a formula for body building and fasting:

👍🏾 Drink 90+ grams of protein everyday
👍🏾 Lift 'heavy' 3 times a week (whether fasting or not)

Have a great day everybody!

@chrisw77 - I do three set for each exercise (so 30 squats total). I updated the post. I also removed the deadlift numbers because I remembered that this guy was hogging the only Smith Machine (the only thing I like to use - Yah I know people hate it but I'm the guy also wearing a weight belt and gloves:)) and I had to do my deadlifts with the only a 110 bar I could find (so I did 10 reps rather than my usual 6). He finally went away and I was able to do my remaining lifts. The squats are my main exercise and my shirt went from dry to soaking wet after even the first 10 reps. I swear if I went to the gym and only did squats and deadlifts I would be good! :)

I must admit I felt discouraged when I saw what happened to your fasting blood sugar after your blowout weekend, since I have the same blood sugar issues and family tendency to diabetes. Despite your now normal weight and your increased muscle you STILL had blood sugar impacts from the excess-for-you carbs. I guess it's kind of a matter of semantics when people say type 2 diabetes can be "cured." It's really only gone (or shall we say "symptom-free"?) if you keep those carbs in check - and maybe overall calories too.

@trackin64 - I feel you! I totally feel you! My exact thinking: "If I say 'screw it' and eat as many carbs as I want , I will be fat again and lose my feet and go blind". I wish it were not this way, but the 'numbers' prove it. This is what motivates me to continue to log my numbers and post my results. I believe that people like me will die an early death and live uncomfortably physically if they think they can consume 200+ carbs a day and eat 2000+ calories a day. Sure 'others' can but, 'insulin resistance' is a real thing. I need to actually prick my finger and monitor my blood sugar to find this out. I must track my food intake to see when I gain and lose weight. It breaks my heart to see people, who like me, are on this site for YEARS (I did 6 years) and never lose more than 10-15lbs. The first change I made was to start logging-every-day. This is my only advice...

As difficult as this reality is to accept, at least there's one good thing: The food I can enjoy without making my situation worse is food I really like! And my diabetic mother is turning 93, eyesight good, still has her limbs (though just recently a difficult to heal leg wound has caused concern), but her neuropathy is pretty bad. She was never more than 10 lbs overweight. Same was true for her diabetic grandmother who lived into her 90's which was far beyond typical lifespan in her era.

happy to see your progress and I bet you lose 5 minimum this week. lots of water weight you gained with your carb fest.

@jenjabba - I see you are making progress by cutting back on te dairy. Good job! Not an option for me because I am currently living on heavy cream... :)

@baskington - I'm not gonna lie, I'm hoping for 2lbs a day for the next 4 days (I plan to extend the current fast a day). Let's see what happens...

@trackin64 - My father is in his late 70s and is doing well, but he keeps his carbs and calories low. All the men in the previous generation in the family passed away in their 50s and 60s.

@Keilin_4 - Gloves, weight belt, Smith Machine. So far no injuries :)

chesgreen is right - you are kind of a mad scientist! I know you will be able to lift as well tomorrow - you are building muscle to do just that so great job on honing in on what works the best for you!

@nikeit - You got the 'Mad' (crazy) part right :) Not losing the first two days kinda sucked, but hopefully it was because I had such a massive carb load. My blood sugar readings were high (that is why I record them). But, I have to sit back and see what happens...

ha ha ha...you sitting back and seeing what happens...I don't think you quite know how to relax about all this ;)

Great blood sugar reading today. Win. Noticed my glycogen spike took maybe ten days to deplete. In my mind this make me ignore statements like 'depleted mine in just one hour in the gym' It's more complex than that, unfortunately. If for nothing else, it is good to know that this factor do play a major role when stepping on the scales frequently.

@Diddlee - Yes for me it has taken 4 days. However normally I would do 1 hour runs that would get my morning reading down faster. This week I decided to only work out at the gym until this morning. But yeah i cant just get back to normal levels in only a day.
