Debbie Cousins's Journal, 23 February 2021

OK, I was able to cancel the 21-day Keto Challenge that I had planned to start on March 1st, and they are going to refund my money, PTL. I had a talk with my husband, and we've decided to go back to Calorie Counting. When I'm doing Keto, we eat different things from each other. When we were doing the Calorie Counting, I was cooking logs of fresh vegetables, and eating occasional fruits - both of which I thoroughly enjoyed, and it made me feel like I was eating healthily (I even felt kinda smug in the grocery store check-out line because I was putting such healthy foods on the conveyor belt, lol).

I lost over 10 pounds in January, which was when we were doing CC, and that is the rate I need to stay at to reach my "60-pound in 6-months" goal. Right now, I'm 3.6 pounds behind schedule, but that's not impossible to catch up on.

Today, I'm logging everything I eat (yesterday, I just listed the things in my Journal, but didn't put them in my food diary), but I've not "officially" started back on track. Gotta go to the grocery store today to get some good foods to have on hand to get started tomorrow. Course corrected. Setting sail again tomorrow!

Course corrected! I like that! Every day is a day to learn new things... even if you only learn what not to do, it’s still learning! Do what works! And keep that smug feeling as you check out at the grocery store!! 😊 I do the same thing!

Oh, and I'm going to continue with having dinner at 3:30pm and then not eating again until 7:30am (16 hour fast), and drinking at least 8 cups of water a day. That's my plan, and I'm sticking to it!

Debbie, I think it's a great idea counting calories. I find since I'm on a low carb low sugar diet I can't go over 1000 calories or I gain or stay the same. I'm right on track for healthy wage right now. I got my 2nd covid shot yesterday and feeling miserable. Even my hair hurts. I will force myself to have you hurt or something cause I really don't have an appetite. You hang in there I know you can do this.

Calories in - calories out usually works for most people

Hi Debbie. Good you have found your direction. I still think finding what work for you is best. But I also know that sticking with it is the challenge. If you don't mind me asking what was the name of the keto plan company that you were going to use? Asking because the one I bought is a total jack up.. I have not be able to do anything with it. Trying to cancel out and it has been just complicated. Although I'm taking some ideas from the diet, how it works and what it is. Right now I'm on my owe and fighting to get away from them. (SMH) I seem to always get jack with some things that say it works. But again. here's to you finding your place and getting those number down. Take care.

Good luck with calorie counting Debbie. It certainly works for me when I stick with it. I eat lots of fruit and vegetables, all kinds, and fish and meat, but I also eat anything else I'm hungry for by planning so that it fits into my 1600 calories per day. Unfortunately, I haven't been eating properly the last few months, but I'm getting back to it now. We can do this! 💛

@ladytanker, the 21-day Keto challenge that I was signed up with was "Real Life Keto" by Keto-SIStahs. It is $47, but you get REFUNDED the money if you do the daily report-ins and accomplish the one or two tasks that are assigned for that day. @Shirfleur, 1,600 (or thereabouts) is where I'm going to be targeting my calories, as well. Kinda tricky right now, with that delicious 397-Calorie per small slice Keto Cheesecake we're finishing up, but doable. Glad to see you getting back on track! @Dennymau, I listen to all the advice I get from everyone and pray for guidance as to what is the best course of action for me. It helps to have everyone's input!

It sounds like you have found a positive direction. For me personally, I've found that concentrating on any one particular "diet" seems to not work in the long run, although I'm trying to stay more in the higher protein/lower carb lane. I'm slowly finding that my best approach is focusing on healthier choices that fit into a daily count for calories and macros to make sure I'm not getting too lop-sided on any one particular thing (ie., moderation...Oh my gosh, I guess Mom was right LOL). I used to concentrate on the immediate goal and that's where I think I've failed in the past because at some point I'm going to eat a piece of cake, or want to have a holiday meal and when I've done elimination-type diets it sets me up to fail when I eat something that had previously been forbidden. I'm hoping that being more aware and making more aware choices IF I want a small piece of cake, will be a better long-term approach to permanency. But, who the heck knows!! LOL Trial and error for me - with hopefully less error. I hope your new path will work for you - important thing is to keep trying :)

Woo i will always support a CICO "diet" which is reallly just a new way of living :) I also love loading up my grocery store cart with almost purely veggies and fruits and grains compared to everyones processed food around me. it may be my inflated self worth kicking in but hey if it helps!!!
