jnix911's Journal, 12 October 2020

I have a question for everyone. I've been seeing videos and reading various sources on the health benefits of taking a tablespoon of olive oil in the morning on an empty stomach, or in the evening before going to bed. Has anyone on here tried this? And if so, do you feel like doing so was beneficial to you? It sounds promising, but I wanted to explore the topic a bit before trying it. Thank you in advance.

Never heard about it. And this is even if you are not low carb?

This is the first video I saw, so I researched it a little bit on Google. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNrRhoSPqOM

I tried it for a little while, but didn’t notice anything and it’s still calories at the end of the day. That said, i eat almonds and avocados regularly, so I’m not lacking in good fats.

That video sounds like it is narrated by an alien. I got weirded out.

Yes. There are others on there that sound better.

As a Spaniard, I’d say it's a shame that you don't enjoy olive oil as it is meant to be: on a rich salad, on grilled vegetables or on toasted bread with a pinch of salt. That said, there is a ”protocol” called by the horrid name of Shangri-La diet that seems to have some evidence on its favour as appetite reducing, and consists in having 2-3 spoonfuls of extra virgin olive oil between meals.

Thank you for your insights.

I am with Eva here. In my diet, keto, there are some that put oil in their coffees in the morning, I just like to have them with my food. I think there is some evidence that combining oil with foods makes it easier to absorb the nutrients in them. But whatever works for you is good.

Hmmm, I use it topically for my hair and skin. I haven't tried it plain, mostly on salads & cooking. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. It's high in calories and has amazing benefits. 🙂😉

Olive oil or any kind of oil will just clog your arteries, not right away but eventually. Also if you suffer from any heart disease eating/drinking oil is just a BAD idea.

Ohhh noooo maybe it could hurt! Thank you Rayo138. Depends on the person and how much. Maybe ask your doc? It's still amazing on skin though. 😉

Using olive oil in the diet instead of saturated fat may reduce total cholesterol levels in people with high cholesterol.Additionally, Adding generous amounts of extra virgin olive oil to the diet and continuing with the usual treatments for high blood pressure can improve blood pressure. These are medical facts well documented. Olive oil can be used safely as 14% of total daily calories. This is equal to about 2 tablespoons (28 grams) daily. Up to 1 liter per week of extra-virgin olive oil has been used safely as part of a Mediterranean-style diet for up to 5.8 years.

Same for avocado oil. It reduces cholesterol that your body makes. It's cholesterol that causes the clogging in your arteries. That is compounded by saturated fats in the diet. olive oil and avocado oils are not saturated and actually remove cholesterol from you body.

Rayo138, you're talking about saturated fats, not unsaturated and this is fairly well documented. Link to Mayo Clinic since I'm not a doctor or a scientist by trade but there is a good amount of evidence to back this up. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/food-and-nutrition/faq-20058439

https://youtu.be/EqKNfyUPzoU watch this video and then you will learn why heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. I am truly glad you found something that worked for you. that said, I have good numbers on my bloodwork and will continue to consume reasonable amounts of healthy fats. Balance in all things.

Just to throw in another view point... I belong to the group of dieters who believe saturated fats to be the healthiest of all fats. So there are many ways to think about it. Everyone has to do what feels right for them I suppose

agree with Katsolo, I use EVOO and other good fats like avocado in moderation and my numbers have been very good !

I use EVOO and avocado oil plus the healthy fats in my diet. I don't take it a spoonful at a time, if I'm going to have the calories it's going to be using it on food.
