Just ate three of them. They were melting. Food stolen from heaven.

Dawnie, persimmons are a tricky fruit. Some are wonderful and others are what you experienced. The idea of warming them up and adding spices sounds good!

Dawnie hachiya persimmons need to be super soft to be palatable or it will taste furry hahah I know weird way to describe taste. Fuyu persimmons are more forgiving.

I prefer the Fuyu, which is what these were. If I'm gifted the hachiya, I make them into things like chutney and jam where I can pair them with another sweeter flavor.

If you're lucky enough to find a soft, ripe but not overripe one, remove the top, put on a plate in the microwave for 30-60 seconds and eat it right of the skin like pudding. No sugar required, cinnamon is a nice addition, and some acid like lemon or cranberry juice is really tasty. I imagine it would also make a tasty spread with a hard cheese and crackers. Yeah, I love persimmons.

Wow! My neighbor grows them and when she gives them to us they sit on the counter until they go mushy and I compost them...now I know what to do with them! Especially the pudding suggest. and lemon(!) Total inspiration. thx

Thanks, DP, I’m trying to up my selfie game even though it’s not really my thing. You should give them a try, done well, they are magic and full of fiber. I have twelve at the moment. Thinking about swapping them in a pumpkin bread thing, haven’t decided yet. Bread is dangerous for me if it’s homemade, do maybe not.
