SoCalPam's Journal, 30 August 2018

Out to dinner with hubby. He wants to go to the sushi restaurant I just went to Tuesday with a friend of mine. That's fine! Easy to manage calorie intake there and the portions are reasonable. I may splurge on a rice bowl with teriyaki chicken + a cucumber salad. That sounds so good right now! I've been snacky all day today, but have kept my total calories just under 50% so that I can have a nice meal tonight. Best score: finding out that a serving of Hershey's dark chocolate kisses = NINE of them! I had three this afternoon as a pick-me-up and feel virtuous, LOL! Bags of kisses are on sale at Walgreen's right now: buy one get one 50% off. Such a deal.

NOOOOOO!!! Don't tell me anything about chocolate. Too early, too early, too early! My official cheat day is not until the first of the month and I'm trying to hold off until Sept 6th.

Really BlueFront? I budget a treat into every day. There's no way I could wait until one day a month; all I would do is obsess about it, eat around it, etc. Knowing I can have a few chocolates or a glass of wine, or whatever every day (just one of those things, mind, not all), helps me stay the path on everything else I'm doing. Oh what am I saying? I had 3 Kisses AND a (small) glass of wine today. Still within RDI! I feel snacky right now before bed but I've used up my calories already. My bad, so off to bed.

Pam that’s the 80/20 rule I believe. 80% of your calories goes to healthy nutritious foods and 20% goes for treats or unhealthy foods. I myself have found that I NEED at least one snack most days in order not to obsess. 12 weeks of torture and sneaking made me realize that! Some days it’s a full candy bar, some it’s one 90 calorie treat and others it’s a plate of chips and cheese. I consider my protein shakes and bars to be treats as well. So days where I get those too seem like heaven lol. I’ve also taken to having a couple hard candies every few weeks when I get bad sugar cravings. I went from half my calories being junk so this is a huge improvement for me. That being said it’s hard to watch others post junk or see them eating it (my kids lol), but most healthy eating requires willpower. Some have more than others. I like testing myself :).

@Peeperjj at work with my 0-3 yr old students if something is hard for them to do, we do it on purpose so they can overcome their feelings about the item or situation

It does get easier testing myself :).

Thanks, all. Trial and error, right? It's taken me about 6 years to get to this weight because I get caught in the "I can eat what I want" trap and then the pounds go back on. I'm a yo-yo dieter but didn't recognize it until this year. Now I'm KEEPING the weight off, but man... going out for meals can be tough. Sushi restaurants are good choices for me as I can eat rice and the portions tend to be smaller. Tonight will be a challenge: a really lovely Italian restaurant where they give you 2-for-1 pasta so you can take one home (Maggiano's). I'm going with a girlfriend (her pick, it's her birthday) and hubby wants me to get the pasta deal so we'll have one for tomorrow night. Ugh. They have gluten-free options, which will help, but restaurant pasta is always like 3 helpings of what I would have at home.

I love chicken parm and so many options going Italian, you don't have to eat the pasta, just take it home for your husband to enjoy

I find that going out once doesn't shoot my progress, but several meals out within a week or so really derails me. Like you say socalpam, it is trial and error and getting to know yourself.

SoCalPam I can't be trusted with my cheats. Little ones turn into big ones very fast. Not yet anyway, but I'm working on it. The cheats are so hard to stop once I start. It's the reason I have trouble staying on a diet for more than a few months. When I slip, I slide off the mountain, not just loose a little elevation.

At the end of the day we are human, regardless of our abilities

Now Christy be nice! ;) On brain fog days I bet Rosio gets more out of any 3 year old than she would get out of me! 😳 ————— I get derailed when we eat out too. Pizza 3 times this week as well as tropical smoothie and Katy’s pantry. So far I’m maintaining but for how long I don’t know lol. Left over pizza for dinner tonight too 😭. This week is just a bust for me but I’m not too worried. Next week our classes are canceled so I’m worried about then. May have to workout alone but that’s boring. Or add in a daily home workout.

Tonight will be my third night out this week. Usually I'm not so popular! It was sushi twice, so the menu was manageable and I was able to plan ahead so I could have a small glass of wine. I hate wasting calories on alcohol when I could eat dessert, but that restaurant doesn't offer a dessert menu. Tonight will be the test. I've already planned physical activities for tomorrow to help burn some of it off.

The kids are coming down to visit in about a month. Will be with us for several days/nights. I am trying to stay very very good for the next month so I can relax and not stress over what and where we will be eating when they are here. They love eating out and my granddaughter's favorite place is our Chinese Buffet. Thank Gid that's one place I easily stay on track. 😀
