L Apple's Journal, 04 October 2017

It's strange sharing a fat "secret" in a journal entry others can read. Today has been tough, but I'm glad I found this site. The office is having ice cream and I will have to skip it. I'm depressed about foods I will need to give up but know the danger of being extremely overweight. Therefore... :-( I know there will be many sad days ahead and am trying to figure out how to turn that around.

Depriving yourself sets you up for cravings😮. Have a smaller portion and then leave 👍🏻. You will be satisfied and happier in the long run👍🏻. Just remember to record it on your daily log 😊

Had a coworker who use to bring their own plastic dish to events like that... and then, like @Carol_Vaquera suggested, she left the event after taking the time to speak to everyone while slowly eating her "stuff".

Not sure what kind of eating plan you are doing, but with most of them there is always alternatives. Lower calorie, lower fat and even lower carb options of almost any food nowdays. It can be tough, but can also be do-able. Hang in there dear, you can do this. Google or Pinterest various food cravings you like. I'm sure there will be some things you can make and enjoy, even have on hand in such an office/life situation.

Once the cravings are gone, a lot of the sadness disappears. And like Clarity said, there are good-for-you versions of many party foods. Glad you're here!

Great suggestions for you so far! As you become more familiar with the site and some of the folks on here, you may share a bit more about what your plan is and then have some more really good suggestions come your way. On this site, there are MANY different ways of eating being practiced, and a lot of success stories to back them up. Mr 184 up there is a perfect example!.

It's okay to feel sad. You are mourning the end of how you used to be. It takes a while, but I can tell you that from my experience that your taste buds will actually change over time. I re-programmed my tastebuds. After a while, it's not about foods that I gave up. It's now more about learning to love new foods that I replace and go above and beyond what I expected. There is so much ahead of you to learn about yourself and your body. Hang in there, mourn, and know that you are starting a new amazing journey to loving your body and giving it medicine instead of poison (i.e., unhealthy foods).

You are grieving your old relationship with food, but now you have an opportunity to develop a whole new relationship with new food! Read, research, find new recipes, seek out ideas and coping strategies from all the people who can read your "fat secrets" (you comment was true and very funny). Everyone will help you, encourage you and support you. This is a journey and you are leaving one place behind to go explore a better place! Congratulations!

The first few days at start-up are usually rough, but it's only for the first few days of the initial low-carb breakthrough. After those first few the benefits far outweigh any convenience. The lower you can keep carb intake, the faster you will reach a state when your body starts to rid itself of poundage. Different schools of thought will suggest different daily levels of carbs to ingest; I start at 15 - 20, and am still amazed at how quickly one gets into ketosis and the weight loss begins. The weight loss is only one part of the low-carb approach, the feelings of energy and well-being are pretty neat also. Hang in there, you'll be seeing results in as early as 7 days. Check out lists of low-carb foods and recipes, the variety is endless. Good luck.
