Thinking I might try and use the hotel gym today, seeing as I've already made much use of the pool. Only thing is, I get terribly self-conscious at gyms-always worrying people will be thinking that I'm an idiot trying use a gym when I'm so fat. I'm so scared of being judged for my weight and that's one of the reasons I'm trying to lose it. Also I don't know how to use half of the equipment-I'm going to be making a fool of myself for sure! Ah well...worth a try, eh?

I feel that way about the weight rooms, but I think if most people even look at you, they're thinking about how great it is that you're here, or wondering when your machine is gonna open up! We are our worst enemies about gym stuff, aren't we? Oh, and gym people love to help, so dont feel bad of someone comments on your form or something! You can do it!

Use the gym visit as an opportunity to learn about more tools to aid you on your weight loss journey. You don't have to use every piece of equipment to do your body good. Focus on doing your body good...

Judged by strangers but applauded by yourself for being brave and taking care of yourself? Sounds like you'd win, regardless of any judgmental strangers! You could also ask people for help--maybe someone would show you how to use a piece of equipment. Good luck! Totally worth a try!

I always feel the same way! I hate not knowing something and hate being judged, especially about my appearance! But people do generally like to be helpful if you ask sincerely. I'll make you a deal, you try and remember that at the gym, and so will I?

Have to ignore them....I just started an aerobics class and definitely feel like a dork with no rhythm but I'm sticking with it so I can loose these last 35 lbs. smprowett, you and I will keep each other motivated ☺

Excuse me - but do your weigh 140 pounds or kgs? If it is pounds you are not fat - and anyway, who cares what people think? do what makes you happy!

My dear, most people standing next to you will judge themselves and not you. We all think we are heavy until we actually get heavy. Good luck getting to your weight goal but you have nothing to be ashamed of.

Former certified aerobics instructor here, NEVER feel like you are the "fat girl" in the gym. Some of those 110 lb. women are feeling the same way. I always felt that my best class was one that had a person who said, "Enough, I am going to try one more time!". Go work out, giggle and sweat!

Thank you so much to all of you for the lovely and supportive comments! And @HCB, I weigh 140lbs, however I do feel fat because most girls my age are around the 100lb mark and I stick out like a sore, plump thumb! I'll get right to that gym now!

I joined a gym, and feel self consciece every time I go ... but I look around and realize NO ONE is even paying attention to me, or what I do! If I don't know how to use a machine, there are usually stickers on them telling you how to use it. Most trainers have you do 10 reps, and start with the most weight you can handle. If it feels too much, stop and adjust the pin to a ower weight. Good luck!

Oh, and to make you feel "skinny" ... I weigh twice as much as you do, and my goal weight is more than you weigh now! I'm 5' 8" ...
