Yeah! It must have been water weight or something, but I'm back to my pre-christmas weight. Now it's on to my GOAL WEIGHT! I walked 1.5 miles today at the college while my daughter was at her last day of camp. Tomorrow I am planning a run along a new course I've been checking out. Since I've been doing about a mile, I think I'm going to crank it up a bit and go for the 3 mile course. Run Jog or Walk, at least I'll be getting used to the distance.
Happy New Year everyone. I am sooooo looking forward to 2010!

Be careful not to increase your distance too much too quickly (it puts you at high risk for injury). The rule-of-thumb is to increase your mileage by no more than 10% per week.

Good info, thanks! I thought my new course would be "a lot" longer, but turned out to be less than 1 mile. I also need to rethink my preference of running on dirt roads and trails as they are not "smooth" - I don't want to twist an ankle or fall!

No problem! I learned the 10% rule the hard way (shin splints, achilles tendonitis, fasciitis...), yuck. I think I walked like a duck for a month because I was in so much pain.
You can also check your distance using mapmyrun.com. It's really helpful in planning routes too:).
