I have a few questions for all of you who are doing some form of fasting. Do you get a feeling of euphoria like you are on top of the world? Do you have incredible focus? Do you feel like nothing can irritate you or bring you down?

I have been having these feelings a lot and they seem to arrive at about hour 16 of a fast. What is put into our systems by the act of not eating that makes you feel invincible?

It stops when I eat...it simply goes away and I am once again normal, mundane, prone to laziness and wanting a nap.

I am just wondering if anyone else have these superhero side effects?

I can see why continuing with the not eating would be attractive, I know the minute I eat something it will end, it's very tempting to just keep going.

Yep, definitely. Best feeling :-)

The longest time I have fasted is 36 hours, maybe I should try for 72, I like this feeling, Jimmy, can you sleep?

I just hit 24 hours on my current fast, haven't broke it, thinking I might skip dinner and push back eating for a while. Not feeling any ill effects, a little jittery from the coffee, but that's it.

Yes! I think it's the clearing of the liver and turn over of mitochondria perhaps.

Check out Dr. Jason Fung's book, The obesity code. It will answer your questions. I don't feel euphoric, but I do feel good when I fast.

I got up at 5, had a cup of black coffee, took a 45 minute walk as usual, came in after the sun was over the tops of the trees and logged on, then went and washed two loads of laundry, folded and put them away, fed the calves, checked on Mom, vacuumed the floors. Took a shower at 10, got ready for work. I had the mail up in 20 minutes, I cleaned the lobby from top to bottom, did the windows and doors, caught up on a months worth of filing (I hate filing). I did about 400.00 bucks worth of business at the window so my closing went quickly. Left the Post office and headed for Walmart, riding with the top open, windows down...singing at the top of my lungs. Did two trips around the store and managed to get everything I came after, stopped at Walgreens to pick up Mom's prescriptions. Got home unloaded everything, took Mom her meds, fed the critters, collected the eggs. Came inside an reorganized my computer desk and rearranged the living-room furniture....now I am sitting here wishing I could go out dancing or something....

I am not hungry, but I feel like I could build a house right now! LOL! Frankie, I have watched all of his videos but I have not yet bought the book, I didn't see anything in his videos that would account for me feeling like I am on speed without all the crawly hair twitchies and shakes. Hormones....hmmm gonna go do some more reading...

...AND HOW COULD I FORGET THE RAISED KETONE LEVELS?! 😉

Interesting, googled "fasting euphoria" and got lots of hits, many different explanations, some say keytones, some say GHB and BHB, but what I found very interesting was the TONS of discussion boards, mostly in the UK that are talking about fasting....and many of them also talk about the high and then the slump that is experienced after eating, so I am more comfortable with the fact of the feeling and knowing that it's not some misfire in my neurons signaling that I am about to have a stroke or some similar malfunction. Good to know! Now I have finally gotten sleepy and considering that I will wake up at 5AM as usual and it's after midnight, I guess I had better get to bed. Goodnight ya'll and thanks for the input!

Interesting post!

THAT is interesting. I usually do 16:8 becuase it seems if I go longer I get headaches no matter how much water I drink.

HCB, the headaches could come from sddium deficiency instead of fasting. Have you tried drinking a little salt water? @Carmen...Wow! Nice fasting challenge!

I haven't but it sounds wonderful Glad you are finding your way. I do believe some form of fasting and eating works best for losing weight. Good look, my dear!

Yes! Those feelings are why I've switched to a 23/1 IF schedule. Eating once a day feels right, and if I'm not hungry during the one hour window, I don't eat. I just keep going until I do get hungry. Yesterday, it worked out to 33 hours fasting. When I tell people, they look at me like I've crossed into another dimension, and most can't imagine going even 12 hours without eating. :)

I have a feeling of hunger followed by more hunger that I'm happy goes away when I eat. I do most of my fasting while asleep, and then while at the gym doing cardio and lifting. Meal time can't come soon enough. Lol
