Christinemeowk's Journal, 14 April 2016

I just lugged my nearly 300 lb butt out on a planned 30 minute uber brisk walk with hills all around my neighborhood block. I've walked this walk too many times to count. This is the first time I've attempted it this heavy. I only lasted 15 minutes (one lap) and I feel like I'm dying. The worst part of it all was the embarrassment I felt as I walked past people huffing and puffing like the out of shape mess that I am. I'm so ready to not feel like this anymore. Until I'm in better shape I think it's best that I start walking way late at night or way early in the morning before people are out. The level of shame is off the charts during normal people hours.

I wish you the best of luck, and I know some have it very difficult on here. Stay focused, and get on the right track, and you can do this! Hoping the best for You!

Hon, don't be embarrassed about getting healthy! You are strong and a person HAS to start somewhere! We are all here for you and I know I've been EXACTLY in your shoes, except mine was a bicycle! I absolutely could NOT go 1/2 block on a FLAT roadway on my block! And that's the dying truth. But I kept it up and at one time could/did ride that same bicycle over 60 miles at a time about 4 times a week. So I know if "I" could do it, YOU CERTAINLY CAN! Keeping you in my prayers and good wishes!

I think what you did was freakin' amazing!! I'm willing to bet that no one was a harsher critic of you than you. And honestly for that rare bird that did judge, those people are ALWAYS gonna judge SOMETHING. If you were a perfect size 6 out there jogging along, they'd be bothered by the color of your shorts. Anyway....a mindset that can help sometimes....think if it was a 300 lb person briskly walking past your house, giving it all they had. Most likely your first thought would be DAMN - good for THEM. They're really dedicated to this and they're giving it their all. Keep giving it your all Christine...walk when and where you want. Good job on getting out there.

Its hard yes. Do you think people are judging you Yes. Let them we have all done it. Just do what is the best for you. I think what you did is great and don't stop. If we were all perfect we would all have a set of wings

Just start out and do shorter trips that get longer and faster each day...time yourself every day..just do it....1 1/2 years ago i could hardly walk i started riding a bike cause it was easier than walking....i am 72 years old...i was not good at stopping so many times i would crash or just fall over...yes many people was seeing me for the fist time in there life...I needed help cause my legs was not strong enough to pick myself up...220 lbs...so embarrass but still the next day i would go again...many cuts and scratches on my legs that was visible cause i always where shorts....now i ride 2 hours each and every morning and now 187 lbs...those same people have a hard time believing i am the same person doing 25 to 30 miles an hour by them on a bicycle....no more falling down or scratches....just add a couple steps more each day and soon you will be jogging. guaranteed...just keep your focus...you are a sweet heart to many people around you and they need you...it can be done.

I agree with all your "cheerleaders". I can't count the times I've seen someone as out of shape as I, riding or walking or at the gym and honest to God my first thought is always, "Good for you! I'm proud of you!" Your statement about waiting till it's dark sounds like something I would say and it would sidetrack me. FIGHT! It's gonna feel so good.

First of all I want to say thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. The first thing I did upon waking after reading all of it was to get dressed and taking my sore body out for another go around the block. Body aches and all it felt a little easier this morning. 💖👍😁

This is the way it should feel when you start. No pain no gain, sort of. But there will be discomfort and embarrassment, but those are integral parts of making a change in one's life. The question is: how committed are we as the answers are all right in front of us.

Great to hear Christine, It will get easier...walking is so underrated as an activity, yet so beneficial.

I think maybe it was more of a shock than anything. I'm six feet tall and I've never in my life had a hard time getting around on these stilts I have for legs. I went from having "a walk" that people would comment on to barely being able to walk. It was a BIG eye opener and just the kick I needed to head in the right direction.

Hold your head high and tell the rest to kiss your ass. You keep right on walking!!

You can do it! Taking the dog for a 35 minute walk and then a brisk, hour long walk, by myself, 5 days a week, helped me lose 45 pounds. It was rough at first, especially since I started of in August (ugh! very hot), but I was determined to finally get rid of the weight I had been carrying around for the last 8 years.

Imagine the people who saw you being BRAVE ! I'm certain that you inspired at least one person. Don't hide ! Keep going in the light and walk proudly!

Ugg, my biggest fear is to have someone I know take a pic and tag me on Facebook and put me on blast for how much weight I've gained. About 2 weeks ago I didn't fit in any pants that could be worn outside, so I couldn't walk. Now I'm terrified yet determined. Haha #thestruggleisreal

You can do it! Don't let other people intimidate you! Think that your beautiful, and have already lost that weight! Because, you all are beautiful, we all are; and our bodies take us from point A, to point B, every single day! Don't let no one put you down, not even yourself! You know what? Let them take that before, you lost all the weight picture; that way, you can post the after you lost all that weight picture! You out smart them, and don't let anyone put you down! You deserve the BEST, we ALL do! Empower yourself! Much luck to you, and to everyone! :)
