My idea of dinner

Why he even bothered i won't ever understand

February 23, 2016
So far so good: Weight-wise i'm just about back to where i was before going to Asia.
I have been making it a point to eat as much fiber as possible - beans and greens, veggies, fruits; and yes, even including those all-important nuts n seeds. All in the name of getting my bowels moving and my gut flora right. I'm taking Quercetin and Glutamine until the bottles are empty(effectively a 4-6 week regimen); i am also supplementing with a non-dairy yogurt. Oh and keeping up with the good-for-you spices such as oregano, turmeric, cayenne pepper, ginger, etc. Easy for me because i've always added spices to my food.

The last couple of days i feel like i've stuffed myself silly! But i think it's just the fiber. Roughly 62 grams for the day. If that doesn't keep me regular then i don't know if anything ever will LOL.

After my pound of raw salad today, i decided to dine on a pound of okra. I made a nice soup of it, complete with some carrots, celery, pinto beans and a quarter cup of wild rice. Spiced it up with thyme, pepper and a bay leaf. And then for dessert it was a chocolate cherry shake (healthy bliss) - a cup of unsweetened dark frozen cherries, 3 Tbsp of unsweetened fair trade organic cocoa powder, half cup of unsweetened organic soy milk, a Tbsp ground flax seeds and 1.5 teaspoons of erythritol to sweeten it up.

Starting to feel naturally antsy...sunrise is coming earlier and i'm taking notice. Soon i will be able to walk the neighborhood at first light and still have plenty of time before work.

That's all i have for today.

@XshapeshiftX: it's a pound of okra, pinto beans, carrots, celery, onions, tomatoes, and a handful of wild rice simmered in spices and veggie broth.

Yum. Everything sounds wonderful apart from erythritol. Have you tried some natural sweeteners like agave syrup or coconut sugar?

@schmetterlinge34 - hi! Erythritol has been found to be a harmless zero calorie sweetener...forgot to add dates to the blender & since i didn't add frozen banana i used a tsp. Go to nutritionfacts.org and watch video on the-healthiest-sweetener.

It might be 'healthly' but it still sounds like a chemical to me. Since you said you wanted to cut out all processed food.....?! Lucuma is another natural sweetner. And if you sprinkle that over bananas and bake them in the oven, it gives them a lovely caramel taste :)

i'm def a caramel fan! I find that dates have a kind of caramel taste too :)

@schmetterlinge34, you'll have to go read about that sugar alcohol which naturally occurs in fruit and fermented foods. :)

Ceekaye: I have and what I found just confirmed what I thought: erythritol is so highly processed and although it has the glycemic index of 0 it can be detrimental to gut health. Have a read on : the healthly home economist. I googled sugar alcohol in fermented foods and it was about the 4th article that popped up. :)

Thanks! i read the article. We'd only use the sweetener for things like cocoa, coffee, or maybe a recipe calling for sugar. Initially i bought it for my husband as a substitute for aspartame. The article warns about combining sugar alcohols with other sweeteners, which is good to know. I'd say take a look at the article from nutrition facts that i posted. There are some differences to note!
