Coma,

I have woken from my food coma....I just left the cardiologist and my weight was 246 completely clothed...OMG...When did this happen??? How did I let my emotions get the best of me.....Why do I let my emotions/stress control my life, my health... my body hurts, the strain it is causing my heart...I want to sleep....I want sugar... I don't look in mirrors....clothes totally suck....I have a very limited wardrobe, I have funds to buy new clothes, but I don't like how any of them look on me...so I dress in t-shirts sweats, and pull on jeans....Now, the work seems so overwhelming, as I have 100 pounds to lose....

FS seems to estimate RDI VERY high. It also seems to estimate calorie burns for various fitness activities very high as well. If I burned as many calories sleeping and resting as FS thinks, I'd never need to get off the couch! A very easy to use site to find your RDI is calculator.net Just plug in your age, weight, height and sex and it will give you a number. I looked at a lot of sites early on that required a lot more data and the number from calculator.net fell just about in the middle of what 5 or 6 different sites recommended.

Dr's typically have less than 24hrs of classwork with regards to nutrition...eat 1200 calories is the ultimate catch all.. The problem with calculating your calorie count based off of weight alone is why are you feeding the fat? Your body needs "x" amount of calories to operate normally, your fat is stored as a reserve to make up that difference during a famine. If you weigh 300 lbs and use 300 lbs as your weight to calculate calories, I would be at 2,800 calories vs. 2000 for 150lbs. Even the 2000 is too high, subtract your body fat%, let's say 20% from that and you'll get to the calories you need, in this example...1,800, subtract 500 per day to use the extra stored energy (fat) and you get 1,300. That is what you would eat....not the 2,800. So don't feed the fat.

1900 will make you lose but very slowly - he might just be trying to get you to a safe place quickly especially if you don't have a lot of exercise you're doing.

I felt the same way: enough! how could I have done this to myself! But what has been done can be undone and you can do it, too!

I am impressed by your knowledge on this stuff, Mahjohn.

I am on a journey to lose 130 pounds. I can't dwell on that seemingly unreachable number. I celebrate every time I enter a new "decade" on the scale. Moving from the 250's into the 240's and then dropping into the next lower one feels so good. Now I am focused on onederland! That will feel sooooo good.. Baby steps my friend, you can do this and we will help!

Add me to the list of people sending you support. Eating for health and being patient with yourself and that scale is another. Good luck!!!

No matter if you have 100 lbs or 10 lbs to lose, it's still lost an ounce, a pound at a time. Breaking up the larger goal into smaller chunks, 5 or 10 lbs, makes it less formidable. Think of it as a journey you'll continue to travel for the rest of your life and just stick to the journey through the ups and downs that will come along the way. 1 month from now, 1 year from now, 5 years from now...the end goal is to be fitter and healthier than you are now. It's a doable thing and you CAN do it.
