Debbie Cousins's Journal, 11 May 2024

I’ve completed 4 consecutive days walking 6 miles. I think this will be a key component in my losing down to 149 by August 31, 2024. My immediate goal is to go 30 days with accomplishing 6 miles every day. I only have 43 pounds left to go (at 194.2, down from 204), and 16 weeks to get there (average of 2.68 pounds a week). It is a very ambitious goal, but I’m determined to accomplish it, and to KEEPING THE WEIGHT OFF for the next 10 years. I’ll be 80 by then, and all the habits will be deeply ingrained in me, so it should be no problem keeping the weight off after that. I would say, “Wish me luck,” but luck will have nothing to do with me accomplishing my goals. It will take empowerment from God and a lot of consistent WORK on my part. I’m all in!

SaraRiley, I started walking again right after knee replacement. In just a few days, I was up to 1 mile a day in my house. To lose that 3.75 pounds a week, you will likely have to add exercise to your plan. No, I didn’t notice any carb cravings (any more than usual) after surgery. I use the STEPZ app to measure my walking. I have a “track” through my house. I had to move some things around so I could do a loop through every room. When I started at 258, I could only walk 1/10th of a mile at a time and then have to take a break to cool off. Now I do a mile at a stretch, but it still takes me almost 3 hours to get in my 6 mile goal. If you need a mentor for your weight-loss and exercise program, I would be happy to help you. I’ll send you a PM with my Facebook user name. It’s much easier for me to use that than my iPhone, because I can type with all 10 fingers.

Thanks Debbie and yes I would love that and since the day I came home from surgery I have been walking around my house and to the point my physical therapist is saying to not walk as much and to slow down because I am walking around fast and doing my therapy fast I tried to explain to him I'm not one who can just go really slow when I'm determined to do something I go full force until I can't go no more. I would love to have you help me as I want to get to where I can walk at least 3miles a day and then once I'm healed up I plan on adding some more cardio and weight training as well with not being able to walk around for the last 7yrs because of my knee I'm ready to walk I am determined to walk and stand up like I did 10yrs ago.

I wish you WILLINGNESS! I find trying to force myself (discipline) doesn't work with me. A deep dive into greater willingness does. I know you can do it!

AncientHippie, thank you. I found a Bible verse a year or two ago that I have clung to: “For it is God which worketh in you both to WILL and to do of His good pleasure.”

Wow! Six miles a day? That's very impressive! I've been trying to get up to a mile a day but have been doing very poorly. You are so right - consistency is the key! Good luck to you.
