Diana 1234's Journal, 25 February 2024

This is not a food related story but it is a “ feel good” story… About 27 years ago we opened our home and our hearts to to friends daughter who was 5 years old at the time. Her mom had bad addiction problems and could no longer care for her daughter. We fostered her, grew to love her and wanted to adopt her. She was the sweetest, most giving, and loving child, despite her upbringing. She flourished under our care and we adored her. Unfortunately, her mother would not consent and we couldn’t go through with adoption. After going through a lot of legal stuff, we unfortunately had to return her to her mom. Her mom would not let us see her very often and they eventually moved to Alaska. Fast forward about 25 years. She found us through social media and we reconnected. She now had 2 kids of her own. She had a difficult childhood, but seemed to be able to overcome some of that. She went to culinary school, she was very involved in her children’s lives, and said that it was her time with us that gave her a strong foundation. She said seeing our lives, our marriage and our acceptance and love, gave her hope. She decided to move back to Vegas where her 2 sisters and her dad live. ( she only saw her dad once in awhile) She called us about a week ago and we were able to see her last Friday. I can’t tell you how happy I was! It warmed my heart to see her and meet her 2 daughters. To know we had made a difference in her life was a great feeling. I only wish we had been able to have her with us permanently. She is extremely courageous to break away from her mom who still continues to use. I can see some ptsd kind of issues in her and she does struggle from depression but overall she is adamant her daughters will have a different life than she did. Anyway, great to reconnect and we will from now on be in her life! God definitely has a plan and we are looking forward to seeing how it plays out💜🙏

The promise of God well lived... "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

What a nice story. How wonderful that you were able to see her and find out what a difference you made in her life.

I love this story. It takes a great deal of bravery to allow your history, the story you tell yourself about yourself, to die so that you can become the version of you that lives in your truth. Bravo for creating space for that to be.

growing up, i saw my parents addictions. i never had anyone like you to turn to. that is great she got to see "the other side of the fence" so early in life. i didn't experience it until about 5 years ago. i do recommend finding a therapist that will do EMDR (eye movement desensitation reprogramming) to heal PTSD(C-PTSD). That has truly helped me heal the trauma responses of the past.

Thank you, Diana. You remind us that even short term love and guidance may positively impact a child for years to come. My mother was a public school teacher for many years. Former students often stopped by her classroom to express their thanks for her kindness and encouragement when they were young.

Thank you all for your kind comments and support. I can't convey enough on how this has affected my life. I was heart broken when we had to return her to her mom and I had often wondered how she was. My husband plan on seeing her and her girls this coming Friday. Going to take them out to dinner. ❤️

That is such a wonderful story!!! I pray every night for all of the children all over the world who grow up in homes that are unstable-addiction, abuse, neglect. But you are an answer to one of my prayers for you saved that child!! ❤️ this brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for your kind heart, I am so glad she was able to overcome her childhood problems because of you and your family. All children deserve a loving home and a stable environment.
