yes it's called active recovery and walking/ hiking are both great activities to get the blood flowing to the muscles to help with recovery its better for you then sitting and doing nothing

Yea walking doesn’t really stresses anything it just helps with blood flow. Hiking depends on the level of difficulty

Do any and all the exercises you can while you can. I say this because at 65 and several back surgeries limit me terribly. I miss being able to run and even do aerobics. Dr. Says no😥😥

If you are not sore from a workout that doesn’t mean you didn’t push hard enough. It also doesn’t mean you should push harder just to get sore. Active recovery should not be strenuous. I’m the same way as well. I can not sit still and I always push hard with workouts. Listen to your body. If you have the energy to go for a run, bike ride or hike, go for it. Do some yoga. If you feel fatigue, you may want to actually rest, meaning don’t do any type of physical exercise activity. I learned a hard lesson when I ended up with muscle damage because I didn’t listen to my body.

Kaylinrenee, I am in the same type of boat. I ride 21 - 24 miles per day generally 6 days a week. That 7th day is a day of rest, not only spiritually, but also physically. I have to let my leg muscles rejuvenate. So, I walk on those days. By the time Saturday rolls around, that 6th day of riding is somewhat more difficult since my leg muscles have begun to tire. Also, during those 6 days I play golf on Tuesdays. That also provides a different type of exercise and gives my bike legs some relief. But, I've gotta keep moving. Same for all of us in our own way. Be well !!

I was gonna say that what you did would probably kill me but Ive seen your other posts and know you do more than that. I rarely take days off...( as long as I'm healthy) I think some of us are programed that way.

yes, it can be considered a rest. It's good to do active recovery rest days like that

Walking is my mental therapy, so absolutely yes - as long as you’re not wearing ruts into the floorboards pacing. try opening your eyes and your ears and letting the thoughts out.

Yes, hiking/walking is still considered rest. In between lift days, I still walk between 1 to 3 miles in rugged terrain for work, and first thing in the morning, in addition to stretching. So, enjoy your walks!

I think it can be rest depending on the person. At your level it sounds like it’s working

I agree, rest days don’t always mean you are inactive, like everyone is saying active recovery is great for you! Yoga, is also a great form of recovery, mentally and physically! Great job!!!

its funny to see 44 floors over 6 miles.... thats how hilly my neighborhood is 🤣 there are 3 flat stretches, the rest is up or Down.

'rest' is a very subjective term, the defintion of which depends upon your fitness regimen. EG if you are a HIT er , then yin yoga or walking could be consirered a rest day. If you are a runner, walking could be considered rest. If you are a walker, then lying on the couch might be rest.
