Fritzy 22's Journal, 27 November 2022

I am not going to weigh myself. I just don't want to know right now. I'm going to wait until Saturday after (hopefully) getting back to my usual eating plan during the week. I didn't spend Thanksgiving with family. The only family close to me is my sister and she spent 5 days with 2 of her kids and grandkids at Disneyland. So I kept her dogs. I am used to having holidays on days before or after the actual day. Will meet with my sister and brother in law for eggnog and pie or something soon.

It was tiring for 5 days with my 3 cats and Bobby plus the two extra dogs. The "puppy" is actually 7 or 8 months old now. I think she only weighs about 5 pounds. I feel so lucky to have Bobby who will eat any dog food I give him. The puppy just won't eat. Didn't like the dog food my sister gave me to feed her dogs. Didn't like Bobby's food. Finally got her to eat a couple tablespoons of scrambled eggs with spam. Then for 3 days I boiled chicken breast for all the pets. Both of my sister's dogs loved it. So at least she got some food in her belly. She stared at me while I ate. So I know she wants people food. My sister said she rarely eats people food but I don't believe it. I remember my chow was like that when I first adopted her. She just didn't like the dog food. I would put it in her bowl, she would ignore it for hours and then finally lay down in front of the bowl and ate when she got hungry enough. I remember going to the feed store and they gave me 5 or 6 small sample bags of different dog foods and I tried each one to see if she liked anything. Then I spent the rest of her life cooking her chicken breast and rice with some dry food available if she wanted it.

I miss Daisy - the little one. It was like having a doll in the house. She's beautiful and sweet and the thing I had worried about (chewing) didn't happen. But she wanted outside all the time. I told her we live inside at this house. Bobby just goes outside for a minute or two. But Nancy's dogs love to go outside and sniff everything. The puppy wouldn't eat anything I gave her but was way too interested in bird and turkey poop.

I don't remember cooking, except for the scrambled eggs. Had coffee every morning and I bought a pizza on Wednesday. Hadn't known before that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is the biggest day of the year for pizza.

I made chili in the crock pot. It cooked all night and that's what I had for breakfast. I froze the rest of it in one cup servings sizes. Looking forward to getting back to my normal diet of maybe 1/4 bagel with 1 tablespoon of light cream cheese for breakfast and snacks of 4 tablespoons of pumpkin seeds, string cheese to get some protein grams alond with fat free milk. And tomato soup for dinner. So much easier and doesn't require much thought.

My sister brought over 2 dog beds, dog blankets, a crate, tons of food and toys. Her older dog slept on Bobby's bed most of the time. My cat Fritzy stayed in the crate with a little bed in it. Daisy either slept with the older dog or on my bed. She wanted to play with the cats but they basically just tolerated her.

I've been reading lots of posts and it sounds like everyone enjoyed the holiday in some form. I didn't get nearly as much exercise as everyone else. Took Bobby for one quick walk and the puppy for a little walk on 3 days. My brother in law said she had never been on a walk. She did good, stayed right next to me and pranced along. I told my sister she has to start walking Daisy because she really loved it. Finally got back to walking Bobby yesterday and got tired quickly. Today I just don't feel like walking.

thanks everyone! Navywife - I wanted to keep the puppy. But once she was home I was okay. I think Bobby was a little jealous and Marco didn't really care for her trying to sniff him and wanting to play.

Wow!Sounds like you were busy! It's nice that you kept your sister's pets for her. I wish I had someone to watch Sydney but because of her fear of men and people in general she gets aggressive when she is scared...we were supposed to go to Hawaii but can't because we have no one to leave her with. It's ok though. We love her and just deal with it. Your chili sounds scrumptious! I have never used my crockpot overnight. Might have to try that sometime... Have a great week Fritzy!💛🧡

So much work to take care of so many pets! The only exercise I got was running around cooking for my family

Thanks Diana - I felt mean saying no to my sister and she couldn't find anyone else to watch the dogs. I'm glad I had them, the puppy was fun and the older dog (a little yorkie/pomeranian mix) knows me and loves me. Have you ever tried to find a house sitter or petsitter? I found mine on Nextdoor. For a couple of years I just had her come twice a day to feed the cats and scoop the litter boxes. Then when I went on trips where I had to leave Bobby at home I hired her to just stay at my house. She really takes care of everything when I'm gone - taking the trash cans out, getting the mail, etc. She had lots of good recommendations on Nextdoor. I now plan my trips based on her availability. She is booked up for months. I never used my crock pot much but it was still on the counter from when I cooked a roast a couple weeks ago so I decided to cook the chili in it. Are you still on the road? Thanks Navywife - Bobby is so good but I could tell he didn't like it when the puppy tried to lay on my neck - I didn't like it much either! So Bobby just stayed next to me when I was in bed and the puppy stayed at the end of the bed. Marco doesn't like other animals other than the ones who were here when I adopted him. Except he does love Bobby! Thanks Abba - it really was lots of work. Makes me think twice about adopting any more pets.

My sister was in the hospital again so I spent 5 days trying to keep the docs from killing her. 4 year in a row she has spent her November BD, and Thanksgiving and Christmas in the hospital. So far2 out of three— we’ll see what Christmas brings this year. Diabesity will kill you

Hello, Fritzy! I was missing you while you were so busy for taking care of your sister's pets. You must be truly nice person. I like to read your daily life story. I don't have any pets but one plant in my kitchen. When my sister visited me for helping my recovery and rehabilitation, she bought the plant and took care of it. She has a green thumbs meanwhile I have a numb thumb. It has been several months since my sister left me and my plant is still alive. I talk to it every morning and night. My dialogues are just like this. "I love you.", "Thank you for coming to me and still alive.", "Good morning!", "Good night, sleep well.", "How was night?".. Speaking of Thanksgiving, I stayed alone as usual. I don't have a family here and close friends. One of acquaintances invited me but I didn't accept it because I am still trying to avoid eating with others due to Covid-19. I didn't know your cat's name is Fritzy. Stay healthy and warm. 😊💖

Fritzy, for future incidents with animals not liking their dry food, they will usually be enticed to eat it if you drizzle bacon grease on it. I know it's not considered healthy, but you don't have to use very much. It's a "gateway drug" to get them to eat the dry food...haha. Works for dogs and cats (and probably people).

That’s one of the reasons I don’t have a pet. I don’t have the patience for that. At least my human friends can buy and make their own food any way they like.

So sorry to hear about your sister Kenna. Not a great holiday for you either.

thanks Morticia, yes very furry!

Thanks Anne. I am not good with plants. Most of mine die. But pets are different, they will follow me around until I remember they want me to feed them. I get invited to some friends' family dinners at holidays but really don't want to go where I really don't know anyone. Hope you stay healthy and warm as well. We've had beautiful weather for about a week but it is supposed to get cold again. If the water in the bird bath is frozen in the morning I know it was cold outside!

thanks larily - sounds like a good idea but I don't eat bacon anymore. But I know my sister does so I'll ask her to bring some next time. The puppy did eat about a dozen pieces of Bobby's dry food, she must have been really hungry!

Thanks Kenna - I understand. I'm so lucky my own dog and cats will eat anything and everything I put out for them.

Kenna - is it just this time of year that she ends up in the hospital?
