didn't leave XP until windows8 was released. win7 is ok. Skipped 8 entirely. 10 might be really fun or a clusterball.

Maybe it will go back to some of the features we loved on Windows 7?

I just got a technical preview, I haven't dared download it yet. Im voting clusterFK. The upgrade to 8.1 was the final nail in the coffin I think. Not only did it not fix the metro problems it made a huge mashup of driver incompatibilities.

I think they lied. :( I may try installing windows 10 on this machine. As long as I can 'roll it back'. ROFL (I think I peed a little.)

I heard the upgrade is only good for ONE year, but maybe I heard wrong!

It will be free for a year for 8 and 8.1 users. I havent heard anything else about pricing. It should be a direct upgrade for 8

Can we just go back to XP forever????

Windows 8--> Windows 8.1 --> Windows 10. Makes you wonder where Windows 9 went....in the trashcan? Somebody told me 8.1 was really 9. Socolova I'm still hanging on to XP at home and one machine running 7. I get surplused computers from my work pretty cheap, a few years old but they work great.

I still have Windows 7, so I guess I will just sit put and watch to see what happens.

I use my Dell for games and "junk" - after Windows 8, I gave in and got a MacBook Pro. It was worth every penny and works like a charm - always.

@Socolova I loved DOS! @HCB I'm debating on that one. I think it would be simpler than going Linux, but Linux can be a lot more versatile and there are scads of free programs. A lot of Mac cost is the amount of software they preload. That being said, Mac has a lot going for it since I'm a musician.

I finally have 8.1 working the way I want it to work, so I hesitate to upgrade, ESPECIALLY if it only free for one year.

Haha, Chad! I used to play it too. @Cats I finally 'upgraded' when I got too annoyed at the 'upgrade now' thing turning up all the time. Drove me nuts! Of course MS is giving it away. They have to have beta testers. Obviously they don't employ any. If they have people who review their product, they need to split them between people who mostly use tablets, and people like me who write and work with graphics and fart around on sites like FS.

I've been using the Windows 10 preview as my daily driver now for over a month. I can say from experience, it's great! I think they're doing a really good job taking the things that were good from both Windows 7 and 8.1 and combining them, while leaving out most of the annoyances and still managing to add some great new stuff too.

I hope you're right. I'd love to have a computer that I don't have to fight with half the time. It looks like they've put an actual start button in the program again?
