sadie_eats's Journal, 12 November 2014

It's happening,

I can feel myself slipping.

I keep coming up with excuses in my head to eat bad. Eating healthy is losing it's newness and splendor. Plus it dumped snow here recently and I think it's bringing my mood down, which is dangerous when you are trying not to eat brownies and pasta.

I've also been telling myself I will find a way to work out that works for me. I could go walk out in the cold, but I don't have a winter jacket yet and it's freezing! I could go check out the free workout room at my apartment, but I'm too scared and I bet it's small and I bet everyone and their grandma will be trying to use it (especially now that it snowed). I could pay for a gym, but I don't have much money... (money is a whole other story)

I feel myself becoming too lax, giving up.

I'm sorry for the depressing journal entry. Mostly I'm just admitting this stuff to myself so that I can decide what to do with all of it.

I've been going through a little bit of the same thing in terms of eating, haven't been doing as well in the past couple of weeks. So much of this is attitude and mentality. I'm reminding myself of the reasons I started eating better, getting healthier, and losing weight. Those reasons are just as valid now as they were when I started and I know the effort is worth it. At whatever "X" point in the future I pick out, I want to be healthier, lighter, and in better shape than I am now....there's only one way to do that and it's going back to working hard on getting there. Each of us has to find our own motivations but I would encourage you to think about why you're here and the reasons you started this. You can get back to being more focused in sticking to your plan, you just have to decide to do it and then move ahead one day at a time. It IS worth all the effort. :)

Hang in there. Go down and check out your fitness room. You don't have to use it right then but at least you'll see what it's like and I'm betting it won't be scary. Think about all the positive things in your life and how you want to enjoy them. BE BRAVE! It will be worth it when you see the improvements you make.

HANG IN THERE... Instead of making pasta or brownies find a new recipe in your food plan you can have and make that. I find that sometimes helps me when I am starting to find excuses why nothing I want is on plan..

you can do this so don't quit now! distract yourself from those excuses in your head; drown them out with music and dance around the room (see, it's exercise too!). as for the fitness room, you don't know if you don't go so check it out. it might be better than you think. do you have stairs in your building? walk up and down and up and down... just stick with it one day at a time.

Leslie Sansone has some great walking videos that you don't need much room to do. I use them in the winter when I cant get outside to walk. Do you have a friend in your apartment complex that could go check out the gym with you? It's not as scary with a friend by your side! :) I encourage you to not give up...make a "dream/motivation board" and fill it with things that inspire you or things you are working towards as you get healthy. Add those things that you will be able to do once you have completed your journey. Every time you start to feel like you want to give up take a look at your board for motivation :) Good Luck!

You have to check out the fitness room, it might ybe small but its free and you wont know till you look. You may find a quiet time during weekends or on a day off. The beginning is always tough and the fact that you have come online and written about it is very brave of you, its more than I could do.

it is tough when weather changes and it is darker sooner, etc. i completely understand. everyone is encouraging you to check out the exercise room - me too. every journey begins with one step (cliche, but true) - and you should try to take that one step - then the next - then the next - it'll get you there. the newness of eating well is wearing off - completely understand - but getting healthy and feeling fit and trim will never get old - once you get the ball rolling, creating the ~habit~, then you'll be compelled to continue, because it wouldn't feel right not to since it is habit - that's the hurdle, getting to that point. breaking old habits and forging new ones. i know it's tough, but you can do it. we all go through hitting a wall, gotta bust right through it though. dig deep. you have lots of support on this site! you got it!

I would check out the fitness room as well. Nothing better than going to see what it is. You don't have to go and be crazy the first day. Think of it like a gym. People would be working out there too. I know you can break through this and start going. Bad habits are hard to break, but replacing them with good habits will be well worth it in the end.

Your so right, I find myself eating a bit more than I was. I'm still staying within calories but feel myself loosing the higher motivation. Weather changing here too, its drizzly and cold in the 30's. I need to find something else to occupy myself as most of my exercise is outdoors. May have to invest inane elliptical or something else to motivate me.

Wow, Br_E_Co nailed it. I NEVER in my wildest dreams thought I would be chomping at the bit to walk on nice days and get to the YMCA nearly every day. I almost canceled a lunch/shopping date with my SIL to make sure I got my 'spot' in Zumba class. You live where you have snow? Then you might readily understand the snowball effect...roll with it and grow with it; it will soon be bigger than you think! :)

I agree with everyone! Now take a deep breath, and realize that anyone who rented where you live saw the benefits of having exercise equipment at their leisure. You are one of those people. You don't need a fancy outfit to workout (or even walk outside. ) Just dress in what makes you comfortable at the time. You can go off hours or when mood strikes you. Also you can also do light aerobics in your home when you have hunger pains. Like doing so many planks, jumping jacks, sit ups, ect during a commercial while you are watching t.v. or listening to music. There are a lot of great utube video's and DVD's at your local library out there to get you up and moving. It's up to you and only you that can do this. I believe I you, as we as all do! Keep me posted on what you decide to do. Truly, J.J.

Don't lose hope, you had such a positive attitude just a few days ago! You can do this. Think baby steps, just little changes in your lifestyle will add up and make a difference. :)

Thanks everyone. You're gonna make me cry lol. I will definitely take all your tips into consideration. I'm not giving up yet, I want to, but not yet. I think I still have some fight in me to try to get going again.

Sadie, the one thing that you can do that might help.. go get blood work done and see what your Vit D level is.. you might need to take suplments.. Vit D does affect how you feel... It is the time of the year that depression hits hard on a lot of people.. it is hitting me hard as well. Don't give up, if you need comfort food.. then limit yourself to products like "fiber one".. Yeah their brownies are pretty good.. "Dieting" is hard work, harder to break bad habbits then smoking and drinking.. why.. you do not need to smoke or drink to survive.. but you need food too... Keep focus.. keep looking ahead.. hard to do at times.. hang in there...

I know right where you are. I hate this time of year because of the short days. Sun is up around eight and it's dark by four. It is not good for my calm. I find that eating for a reason works for me. I like to lift weights. If I eat with the idea of feeding my body for that endeavor, that works for me. It's -20 here this morning. Who cares about the winter coat. Layer! Besides, shivering burns calories. :)
