WARNING - THIS IS A RANT!
Hmmm...some people don't seem to be being honest in their exercise journals or are confused on what to choose. I just saw that one person burned almost 1000 calories (running/walking) 3.33 miles, but it took them 65 mins to do it?? They put on their exercise they spent 60 mins going fast on an exercise machine. Now I can do the same distance in about 45 to 50 mins at a pace ranging from 3.7 to 4.7. mph. That isn't even a jog. My idea of fast on an exercise machine would be going a lot more than that...therefore burning all those calories. I never burn more than 500-600 at my rate (with an incline for part of it).
Another person (around 240lbs female) put that she just started exercising again after being out of it for awhile (I'm in the same boat)...then put that she ran for 60 mins at 6mph on the treadmill. Okay at my top shape and lowest weight I could only run for 10 to 20 mins straight at that rate...I know everyone is different, but come on now...someone that big that hasn't exercised in awhile all of sudden can do that...NO WAY!!
I understand people want to feel good about themsevles, but playing with the numbers isn't being truthful to themselves. If anything I notate less than I have actually done, especially if I am not sure how it translates on here. I want to make sure I am working hard and keeping up physically as compared to my caloric intake.
So people, be honest...take a look at the machine you are using...a lot of times it tells you approx how many calories you have burned. If you are outside running that is harder, but there are tools you can use there too to see what your pace is. Match up what you find up there with what Fatsecret has. My treadmill and the ones I use at the gym match closely to what fatsecret has and that is after I have averaged sometimes...because I do intervals...so there is something comparable.
Everyone out there...Goodluck and keep up the good work!!
