jen53's Journal, 30 October 2010

Only half a pound down this week (at least this is progress). I am disappointed with my weightloss, it is now 42 days since I started Atkins (I joined FS a few days later) and I've only lost 8 lb so far. My hubby (who started with me) has lost 19 lbs!

I do the research, the cooking, the shopping, he just has to eat his meals. He is also cheating with the odd piece of fruit (I know this is ludicrous saying 'cheating with fruit', but we have to stick to the Atkins science!). As he has lost such a lot in a relatively short time and despite him being more active and 9 inches taller than me, I think it proves we have been 'doing' Atkins correctly.

I am going to print off the carb ladder for John today, as he has only 7 lbs to go and I think he should now be making his own food decisions to climb the ladder.

But... we are not here just to lose the weight, we are here to get fit and healthy. An I feel soooooooo much better than I did last year for example.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I have found that men's metabolism is much faster than women. My husband is the same way. I also do all the shopping and cooking. It doesn't seem fair to me, but what are we to do? Just keep doing what we are doing and continue to get healthier. It is also certain med's I take that makes losing so much slower. You both have done wonderful. Keep up the great work and have a wonderful and safe Halloween week-end.:)

I understand completely, I have it a plateau and have been bouncing between the same two pounds for two weeks now. I am stuck, but my clothes are loose and I feel good. My husband is down almost twice what I have lost and he is more than a foot taller than me and cheats with crumb cake and cookies. Keep up your great attitude, we will get there in time and feel better in the process!

Jen - I can feel your pain! I don't know if it's age, past dieting, or just the luck of the draw in the gene pool...but I just looked back at my history and only lost 6 lbs in the first 40 days! Keeping your attitude focused on getting 'healthier' day to day...will certainly go a long way to reducing some of that frustration! (and btw, my husband lost a bunch of weight the first month I made the switch to Atkins...and he wasn't even following the plan...just eating whatever I cooked for meals, etc.) I am glad you are feeling better...hang in there - and your body should start to release the stored fat on a somewhat consistent basis...as you say - it's science - what else can it be doing to burn fuel? Are your measurements changing, even if the scale isn't??? That's another area that begins to change before the scale does. Hope you have a good weekend. Love.

I'm right there with you. I'm also bouncing around with the same two pounds. I've been under a great deal of stress and I think my body is holding onto weight because of it. I've been under in my calories and I need to up them. I haven't been hungry and I'm eating balanced and low carb and I'm drinking water and I will try to increase them. It's frustrating.

Oh, Jen, I feel your frustration! Like you, I do all the research, shopping, etc. My hubby, who also started with me, does no research and just eats what's put in front of him. I exercise at least 5 days a week, and he doesn't exercise at all. But he's already lost 17 lbs and 5 inches off his waist! So unfair... You seem to be doing everything right, so as everyone else says, just stick to it. I remember reading somewhere that it takes the body about 6 weeks to adjust to a new regimen. So your body may be "fighting" you, particularly if your current routine is a significant change from what you did before. I also noticed that you've recently added exercise to your routine. This is excellent! Atkins encourages exercise and, with our slowing metabolisms, we need it. You're doing great, so just keep it up. Have a great weekend.

Jen, sometimes the process is slow for us, some of us, unfair or not, have horrible metabolisms and just have to deal with carb intolerance. It will come off if you are sticking to the plan, it may be slow, but at least you are headed in the right direction, and learning to eat better along the way. HANG IN THERE! It will happen for you, keep a positive mind, you CAN DO THIS!

Thanks everyone, it is great to be amongst friends that understand. When we see friends they make a fuss of John, congratulating him on his diet....not a mention about me.... But I'm not cross, John is so much better, before he was always popping Ibrufen as his knees ached - but not anymore - I don't think he's had an Ibrufen for weeks. I am resigned though to the wait, I know I'm not alone. Thanks again everyone! Yes hbkim, started doing a bit of exercise, going to an aerobics class on Monday and Zumba on Thursdays! Thanks so much for your encouragement. x
