msamy034's Journal, 07 October 2010

Brought my Atkins book with me today-need to figure out what isn't working. I started counting NET carbs (was counting total) and added more veggies and omitted the EAS shakes 2 weeks ago (I did not think the shakes were an issue) I also lowered my RDI to 1600 but that is not enough calories since I seem to be hungry more than before I was watching my calories. Weight has not changed since 9/10 and I measured this morning and have had no change since May! Other than walking, exercise is not an option due to a back injury-I tried some light yoga streching a few weeks/months ago and my injury flared back up-so that is out for now.

Something's gotta give!

Amy - I went as far back as your food calendar would let me (total carbs). Some of the items you have, like 'my usual dinner salad' is listed as one cup of shredded lettuce...are you sure every time you select that...that you are only having one cup? always the same dressing? always w/ the .8 tomatoe? Sometimes we get used to selecting stuff based on previous entries...but it's not completely accurate to what we are actually doing. Try to eat w/in an hour of waking (something small)...then Bkfst, Lunch, Dinner 4-5 Carbs, and 2 more snacks (2-3 Carbs). All the while shoot for 1500-1800 Calories, keep up w/ your water...and then let's see after a week or two how that begins to work. (of those carbs at bkfst, lunch and dinner...only 1 1/2 - 2 Cups salad, total, and 1 cup of a 'meal veggie'.) Btw, I should know this...and could look it up...but what is jicama...and could you cut your serving in half, and still be happy...? It sounds like you are a lot more carb intolerant than you thought. Oh, and lose the SF products until the scale moves again...

oh, and when you feel more hungry, have a second helping of a protein. preferably cooked in a healthy fat....that will rid your feelings of wanting to eat...so be sure to eat all meals and snacks anyway! It will keep your metabolism burning fat consistently throughout the day.

What SF products the jello? I actually haven't eaten any of it-I put it in there in case I do but usually by the end of the night I don't eat it. I made the clean induction switch two weeks ago and that is all I am adressing. I do measure my salad every time I eat it, same lettuce, same dressing, same everything. Jicama is a high-fiber veggie, why would I want to cut that in half if it is a good source of carbs/fiber? I am measuring everything-I am following the book-I appreciate the advice.

just trying to help you play detective...the only other thing I see is your overall percentages are off a little...a little on the high side in fats and a little on the low side in protein...but not by a lot. I have never eaten or heard of that veggie, but if it's full of fiber ...it's relatively low in carbs...I try not to go over 5-6 carbs at any one meal. oh, and sorry about the jello ...didn't realize you didn't eat that... All I know is it took me about 4 weeks w/out a loss before everything seemed to get started again...please be patient w/ yourself...you're doing a great job w/ following everything and keeping up w/ the walking, and your water, etc... !!!
