Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 05 April 2013

Happy Friday! I think.. wait.. yup.. FRIDAY! And Day 5 of my Madness. I've gotta say... creating a challenge and having a bunch of people watch does make me think twice about putting an oreo in my mouth and motivates me to do whatever I can here and there to make a difference. Like standing at work. If I take off my heels and stand in my socks I can stand at my desk and work. It's supposed to burn an extra 300 calories a day if I just stand. It probably helps that I get bored of standing and end up doing lil jiggy things or squats or hip shakes. Only problem is when you forget you're at work and you're not wearing shoes and you go to the copier where someone notices you have on your cookie monster socks. Maybe bright blue socks at work weren't a good idea... Really though my co-workers should be used to me by now. Plus I will walk at lunchtime again and enjoy the lack of snowflakes in the air. I just have to remember to put my shoes back on.

Tonight is clean the barn night. Hubby has bowling and we have another person come in and milk but we have an inspection tomorrow because we're switching milk companies. Soo... I get to clean.. a barn. Really it isn't that bad. We keep up with most things on a daily basis but we have to make sure everything is shiny and sparkly and doesn't have grubby hand prints.. or poop.. or kitty prints.. or sparkly fairy stickers. So my workout tonight is going to be cleaning. Think of the karate kid. Wax on.. wax off.. wax on.. wax off.. get slapped in the face with a wet cow tail. What I really want to know is why the heck is everything stainless steel????? The water spots are so freakin hard to buff out. If you don't think this is a workout.. be free to come join. I will have the hot tub ready for when you're hobbling around like a granny and can't straighten your hand anymore. The good news is it has the same effect as cleaning the bathroom! After smelling chemicals and poop for a few hours you lose your appetite!

Oh and an update on operation hide the veggies! I tried a new recipe. I hadn't made them tatertot casserole before so I thought it would be a good way to hide things. Hubby and 9 yr old got lean beef, a lil cream of celery soup... little man's pureed squash and zucchini that he refused to eat but was willing to repaint the walls with, cheese, and tater tots. Not exactly a stellar recipe but it was good! And I didnt burn it. They both went back for seconds. SUCKERS! Hahahahahaha! This weekend I'm going to make a healthy cookie. Maybe I can get some organic unsweetened apple sauce or something in it. Or some pureed carrots... maybe both. Or some more zucchini.

The real question is how do I explain the extra toots they are probably going to end up with due to the nutritional shock to their systems.

I have seen tons of recipes for zucchini brownies or banana zucchini bread you could try! Or google skinny chunky monkey cookies - banana, PB, applesauce, cocoa powder and oats! Re: the stainless steel, what do you use to clean it? Someone gave me actual stainless steel spray cleaner that foams a bit and it makes everything sparkly and shiny instantly! I'm sure you have a lot more surface to clean, though, so that might not be cost efficient. And then you wouldn't get quite the workout lol. Good luck!!

Unfortunately I can only use approved chemicals for the milkhouse. All of which will take a dried bit of milk off in a second but leave stupid water marks so it doesn't look like you cleaned anything! Stupid water marks.

Oh and thanks for the recipe ideas! I'm googling skinny chunky monkey cookies now. lol This could get me in trouble.. maybe I should only google recipes at lunchtime so I'm shoving food in my mouth when I do it.

Wishing you continued luck with your quest for veggie consumption. And with that inspection as well - dispensing elbow grease will be a good work out!

DFW-males never question toots or their origin, they are only pleased to have toots and a plentiful supply of them. All will be well, they'll never suspect a thing.

Ugh now I'll be thinking about the cookies all day too! I have all the ingredients at home.... just might make em tomorrow!

Success! Keep it up! If I lived closer, I would help you with the barn cleaning. Chin up - just think of all the calories you will burn and how well you will sleep! :)

I hate veggies so I bought a cookbook called Stealth Health. It's amazing how you can hide the veggies and still have a tasty dish. Been around a few dairy farms...don't envy your task. Farm On girl.

Cleaning will definitely be a workout. Keep hiding those veggies, they'll thank you later, even if they have the toots. I make a chocolate zucchini cookie that is really cake-y and the kids love it. I think I found the recipe on-line, but can't remember if it was here or elsewhere. Good luck cleaning and hiding the veggies!!

HA! I got my 30 minute walk in so now anything else I do today is gravy. :) So long as I stay away the oreos...

Good job on the walk! And the barn cleaning sounds like quite a workout! Cleaning, the workout you have to do, but no one ever feels like it IS their workout, lol. Muppetsmom-I'm going to have to check out that cookbook, I need to get my family to eat more veggies and if I have to sneak it into their food, so be it, they'll thank me later :)

Getting your walk in was great - I will have to get mine in tomorrow. Don't want to fail the challenge this early in the game. I have some sponge/cloth things that fit over your hands made especially for stainless steel. I use them with my "Barkeepers Friend" cleanser in the kitchen on pots and my SS garbage can. I bet they would work with your dairy approved cleaners.

I have a recipe when you puree a whole can of black beans pureed and add to brownies mix and no one knows.

Those black bean brownies are the bomb! My kids never have figured that one out!

I have a recipe for cookies using whole wheat flour, oats, organic applesauce, chopped dried fruit, nuts, honey, & maple syrup (chocolate chips are an option). Hmm, I also have an old Susan Powter kids cookbook somewhere that has just the kind of recipes you need; I'll try to find it. My Cost Rican friend talks about chopping veggies really fine so her husband doesn't notice them; kids of all ages, right?

"Hey Mom, I'm Hungry" is the name of that cookbook; good stuff in it.

I have heard about those black bean brownies, that they are FANTASTIC! I think I'll see if I can find that book at the library.

I need to google black bean brownies now lol that one I have to see their reaction to! That and I need chocolate.

I think there's a recipe for black bean brownies in the FS recipes.
