I'm trying to decide whether I want to continue with my attempt to eliminate dairy from my diet. The last time I had skim milk was 8/21. I added back string cheese to my diet for a snack to try to get my protein grams up and will sometimes have butter. But I miss the milk! I really want to see if giving up or reducing dairy will impact the lab results for inflammation - but hot chocolate made with almond milk really isn't that good. Miss my daily hot chocolate with skim milk and 12 grams of protein.

I would really miss the half and half in my coffee each morning! Maybe once a day isn't so bad for you?

Fritzy, since butter (99.999% fat) has no milk sugar (lactose) and only trace amounts of protein (casein), it *may* be permitted on some "dairy-free" regimens. It depends on the individual's degree of sensitivity.

I've made the transition to Califia coconut milk for my one cup of morning coffee. HWC it ain't, but it does cut calories! I'm not morning-coffee-dependent (like my husband, Patrick!), so I can skip it altogether when I'm doing a water fast.

Yes, leaving out dairy does cut into the protein!

Liv - the lab test is scheduled for February 6 months from last test. I may call my doctor and ask to have the doctor appointment and lab test switched to December so it's covered under this year's insurance. Not sure what I'll do for insurance early in 2020 as I'll be eligible for medi care in June.

Mira and Melissa - I am now allowing myself 1 string cheese a day for the 7 grams of protein and a little butter if I need it on toast or something. But I haven't had milk for almost a month. I don't drink coffee (except once in awhile when I go out to breakfast) but when I did it had to have half and half! I want to reach one month with no milk then I may allow myself one gallon a month for the hot chocolate, maybe just during October and possibly November. I haven't really noticed any differences since giving up milk, maybe it takes also giving up the string cheese and butter! But there are some slight differences in my shoulder pain, it doesn't seem to be as bad.
