It's really overwhelming sometimes, isn't it? in wonderful and terrible ways both. I joined FS at 238 lbs, but actually, I started out at about 280 this winter, so seeing the numbers go solidly into the mid-210's has been a bit surreal.

I hope I have the self-discipline to go on, though that's the least of the mindset problems I worry about; if I can walk through the kitchen and not give a passing thought to the crackers, bread and ice cream my dad usually keeps on hand, I'm not worried about my relationship to food going bad again.

I hope I don't become an "ex-smoker" over food and attempt to proselytize my friends...unless they ask for advice or help. That's a lot more difficult; it's hard not to step in with unsolicited advice when you're finding your own way that works. It's hard to stay silent when you see friends making the same decisions that were part of getting you to your heaviest. That's one reason I've been pretty public about my weight loss process. Mostly for the accountability, but also to provide an example rather than a sermon.

I hope I don't grow bitter and resentful toward the world, that has generally treated me as a spectacle or the butt of jokes, finding me more acceptable and even attractive. I figure that might be the issue that makes me check into therapy if anything, down the road, but...you know, I've spent enough time bitter, resentful and angry at the world and myself. It's been easier to let those things go as long as I approach the world with openness, honesty and candor.

So on we go...
