KETO
Going to TRY to do pure-keto to see what its like.
I've ordered a breath tester to do my checks. (I LOVE data)

I'm onboard with lowering my protein a bit, doesn't look like I'll have to lower it much, but will have to watch the "high" days and plan that if I'm going to have prime-rib at night, go lower in the day.

Adding more fat, while yummy, will also take some planning.

What I'm not sure about is going by TOTAL carbs rather than NET carbs. I really believe in fiber, so not sure how this will play out.
Having the ability to monitor the ketones will allow me to make an informed decision as to whether pure keto (as opposed to low-carb/Atkins) is right for me.

Keto is a bit hard to really define. What is pure keto to you?

As opposed to Atkins at a ketogenic level.

Atkins is ketogenic. He popularized the diet first in 1972 and then again with the New Diet Revolution in 2002. The Atkins Company I think of as a bit of fraud.

Anyways those are just definitions and opinions. Good luck on your ketoing. It is fun

Atkins has one level that is keto, phase 1. But as you move thru phase 2, you are no longer at the keto level, and phases 3 and 4 aren't keto.

That may be how the company phrases it because they like to sell all kinds of products. But in Atkins 2002 book you should stay in ketosis even as you try a few new products like berries or nuts etc. Or if you felt like it stay on 20 carbs. Anyways I think I read all the books written by dr. Atkins and also the New Atkins for a New You. I was and still am a big fan of the diet. I think many keto people try to distance themselves from the Atkins by saying that diet was not Keto but that is how you were supposed to lose most of your weight. I think the most important part added by keto is the ideas about fasting. And they are coming from Dr. Fung. He has tought us that insulin is the most important aspect of the diet and that controlling it is the key. I do not think that was really Atkins nor did Atkins have an understanding of how to control in outside of limiting carbs.

Good luck! Keto helped me a lot. I counted whole carbs. But net is fine too as long as your day is not filled with “fake” foods. Like low carb wraps and Atkins bars.

Goodness! Good luck to you! Staying under 20 “real” carbs?! How long is this trial?

I am so excited to finally hear that someone is going to measure! I use a Keto-Mojo blood meter. I bet you will be happiest if you incorporate fiber in your diet. For myself 10% carbs is 45-50g of carbs. I have done the daily accountability challenge where you try to get 20g of fiber a day and 30g net carbs. Those are my best weight loss weeks but I still aim to keep my carbs at 10% and still I am easily kicked out of optimal ketosis. (usually by a glass of wine) Everyone is different and measuring is a great way for you to figure out how you should tweak the basic 10:20:70 formula for yourself or whether you benefit from exogenous ketone supplements, intermittent fasting, etc.

Instead of adding additional fats, I used my own body fat stores as my fat source, As I had plenty, seemed to speed weight loss up for me !!! Good Luck !!!

I also use the Keto-Mojo blood ketone meter. Not everyday, just when I think I may have messed up and need reassurance that I still have ketones burning. I think someone else mentioned the idea that there is a difference between dietary ketones and fat-burning ketones. You want to make sure that your over-all calorie intake, even if it is the right ratio of fats/proteins/carbs, is low enough that your body is producing ketones from stored fat, not just from fat that you eat. That's where exercise and intermittent fasting fits in to the plan. At least that's what I've gleaned from my studies. I keep working to find the right balance that keeps the weight coming off and me feeling better and stronger. So far, so good! KETO-ON!

Do N OK, eating fat is one of the things that allows your body to burn more fat. Low dietary fat is a BAD thing, especially when doing low-carb/keto.
