Water fasting... all-day-long :)

Huh, first I've heard of that. Pretty sure your immune system would do better with food than without. When a body is healing a calorie surplus is more beneficial for example.

I can't help you with that, I got a cold once last year, I hardly get sick. But when I do I eat more than normal, because the teas with honey, vitamin c, chicken soups and cough syrups. The thing is, I am always hungry when sick haha

I hope you feel better soon! 🙏

Autophagy is probably of greater benefit to folks who have a significant amount of BF. And, currently reviewing a fasting book, there are many claims with little to no actual studies provided or linked to verify some of the claims. Food is a friend with respect to immune system.

@Terrapin12 - For me, my white blood cells protect my immune system. See: https://bit.ly/1muR4L7

A normal calorie deficit also increases autophagy. Fasting is the new 'hotness' but it's just another way to limit calories.

@Diablo360x - For people trying to help their body with things like Cancer treatment, a fast has a better chance of helping them achieve their goals than simply 'cutting calories'. Honestly, the only negative I get from a water fast (other than boredom) is that I can't lift heavy when my muscles have no glycogen! Haha Otherwise, my body simply does not need food if I have sufficient body fat (at 25 BMI I have 'plenty of body fat'). But, it DOES need electrolytes and a reasonable amount of water...

The fact that it affects strength is a huge red flag for me. I take creatine to get an extra edge in power output. Fasting does the opposite. If you cant perform at your max your body won't be doing much changing. Progressive overload would be hindered.

And I don't know why cancer was brought up.

Reminds me of when people bring up diabetics when I say there is nothing wrong with carbs. You should probably follow your doctor's advice when it comes to cancer and diabetes. Heh

Its probably not food in general but more or less processed food and all the other crap we put into our bodies that ruins our immune responses and other healthy body functions.

@kaylinrenee - From my experience, when my body goes into a 'fasted state' meaning, I am burning fat (a process that actually takes 2-3 days because food can sit in my digestive system for days), there is a change that also triggers my body behave differently. Simply 'reducing calories' will not cause this 'change' to happen. The 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Yoshinori Ohsumi when he discovered and elucidated mechanisms underlying autophagy. This-is-a-real-thing :)

@Adefwebserver the link you provide describes folks going through chemotherapy treatments and how prolonged fasting may ( a great operative word) assist in white cell regrowth. If this is your way of telling the FS community you have been receiving chemotherapy treatments I find it terribly unfortunate. Otherwise, the context of your link doesn't apply if you do not have cancer, AND more importantly, receiving treatments in the form of chemotherapy. Also, the context is truly relevant when discussing fasting or diabetes or cancer and difficult for folks to discern when they skip through these blurps people write. Some people will read your statements above and be misled by what and how autophagy can apply to them and their current health conditions.

You burn and add fat all day, Adef, the net gain/loss will be determined by total energy in vs out over a period of time. To think that we only burn fat after 2-3 days of fasting is nonsense. Sorry.

But isn't it true that your body Burns the fat from the food that you are eating before it Burns your body fat? Similar to the body uses the water you drink versus the water stored in yourselves which is why when you drink enough water these cells rid of the retained water and you have the woosh effect as a result. So by this theory if you are fasted you are burning more stored body fat than normal because your body doesn't have the fat from your food to use/burn.

Sorry, didn't read your full comment. We are always burning, yes. But being fasted Maximizes Stored fat burn
