I am to memorize 1 John 3:1. So far the word "bestowed" has stuck....only 20 more words!
Today I can report I received a Goal Met star yesterday. Pretty stoked!
Today's food journal has more notes on it from today's Bible devotional that space for actual food entry. (Yes, it was that amazing.)
The program is called "Changes That Heal" by Dr Henry Cloud. Today's lesson was "Ingredients of Growth." Here are some insights from this lesson. Who knew it was really what I needed.
- We don't always get what we need. - There are 3 ingredients of Growth: 1) Clinical (How we feel/fear/stress, etc). 2) Relational (How can we improve our relationships - 1 John 1:9 (God) and James 5:6 (human). 3) Performance (our talents, gifts, accomplishments). For growth to occur for each of us, the ingredients never change.
-Luke 13: starting at verse 6 - The parable of the fig tree. 1) Period of Bad Time -- no fruit/no growth/does not go away alone. 2) "Cut it Down" - legal/judging/our "all or nothing" This produces wrath and anger and shame. Thus causing our sin to increase, making our problems larger. (One of the examples used was a diet. We decide to start a diet and do good for a bit, then not make any changes, expecting results, then binge and decide to throw in the towel, and get caught up in our shame and guilt, frustration, anger (2) and then we revert back to (1). We try again, but without growth, we revert to repeating the cycle over and over and over. (Honestly, I could really relate to this!)
-- Christians can get caught up in these 2 cycles. All persons can - they are both universal. God requires us to have a sense of true remorse, thus allowing Him to come in and help us out of these cycles.
3) Enter the Advocate - stop the judgement & no condemnation. (Romans 7:8) Jesus came and He silenced the judges. God loves us just where we are now. No matter how good or how bad we feel about ourselves, no matter what we have done or left undone, no matter how many times we have started/stopped a diet. God loves us where we are now.
4) Dig, Fertilize and Year - Dig into the Truth. Fertilize with grace and favor. Year - take in a process (1 Peter 4:10), for only with a process, can change truly occur.
Ask yourself these questions: Where am I under the law? Where is my advocate? Where am I going to go to track my growth? _______________________________ Just found it really interesting and really spot on. I know I find myself many times in the bad cycle wanting a way out, but not wanting to "really change" because it takes effort, direction, grace, and time. Let's face it, laziness and gluttony have been my close friends for a while now. Oh, I have exercised alot, but until I delve into the process.... we all know the nutrition is a huge chunk of the process of growth. Just a reminder we are all here for the support and process.
