I managed a 41 hour fast, but I'm so cold and tired, so I'm eating.

Great thing about a fast, you can stop at any time :)

Fasting sounds dangerous You body needs food to survive properly. Youf body will tell you to bugger off and hold on to food at water because it doesn't no when it is going to get more food. Weight loss isn't about forcing you body to do something its about changing your life style to a healthy one and keep to and the weight will come off. You can't fast for ever

@Howard 74 - I try to be supportive of others on this site. If I provide inaccurate and harmful advice I am not helping others. I have read: "The Complete Guide to Fasting: Heal Your Body Through Intermittent, Alternate-Day, and Extended Fasting" - https://amzn.to/2LV5yci - This factually demonstrates that fasting is as safe as any other diet. You actually CAN fast on and off forever :) I have been fasting 5 days a week for months. Take Care!

I've never been a fan of fasting. Goes against your body's natural instinct to fuel and replenish. As the chap here has mentioned, it's about altering your lifestyle to include a good healthy balanced diet and introduce exercise.

@Kristiano7 - Fasting is part of life saving treatment for many members of this site. I prefer to be supportive of others on this site. Making unsubstantiated and inaccurate comments on their Journal is something I learned to be unhelpful.

Latest BBC studies have proven that supervised fasting is an excellent way to give your body a respite, balance your hormones, sugar levels. - Eat, Fast and Live Longer: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01lxyzc - The Big diet crash experiment: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b53xqs

I am entitled to offer my personal opinion. Nowhere in my comment do I make any personal or offensive remarks I am merely commenting on my personal choice not to do it. I really don't see your problem. Apologies, for a second I forgot that there are so many health and nutrition experts on here.

I've lost 35 kilos by fasting and low carb. I'm disabled and don't move much. I'm mainly in a wheelchair when I go out. I've been obese since I was a young child, but fasting has helped me a great deal. I usually have more energy when I've not eaten for a day or two, but I've been stressed and had a flare up of fibro & chronic fatigue syndrome. When that happens I have a hard time controlling my body temperature. I have done longer fasts in the past, but I always listen to my body and if it says stop, then I stop.

@Kristiano7-Fasting is the oldest way that we lived. It's the natural way to our bodies. I also don't eat any processed food - when did mankind get so arrogant that we believe that man-made (eg margarine and highly processed oils) are better than what Nature has provided (eg butter, coconut oil & olive oil). I'd rather have real ale than lager too. lol

You know exactly what to do, and how to listen to your body 👏 It was still a good fast, and healing and autophagy etc. Good for you x

I must agree with the fasting debate I'm afraid, it is one of the most powerful forms of use to help your body and mind recover and repair, I have been doing OMAD and keto for 8 weeks and have never felt better, I am no expert but you tube has tonnes of videos on this, watch and educate, this will be by far your best strategy for longer and healthier life, carbs are your enemy, fats are king, it's life best kept secret trust me, we are hunter gatherers by nature it's society that has made us grazers which is naturally the worst thing you can do to your body. Watch Dr Berg and Dr Jason Fung, fasting will change your life for the better. Keep up the good work in whatever path you choose but mine is OMAD currently and it's amazing

Prolonged fasting may help the body, but the brain still needs to be fed. My body type means a keto diet would be a very idea, which I'm pleased about. I think the media scaremongering on carbs has gone way over board. I just avoid sugary foods, but don't worry about eating pasta etc because my body (and brain) need them.

Mini- Keto on! I know you are taking care of yourself. You've lost a lot of weight, and that's just got to be great for your health.

I don't listen to the media, I educate myself by research, your brain will feed from whatever source is most prominent, it doesn't need carbs, once you become fat adapted your brain actually functions much more efficient, I eat 75% fat 20% protein and 5% carbs, I do keto and OMAD, rice, pasta, bread etc is not needed in a diet and is 100% not good for optimal health, but each to there own.

I've read so many different nutrition books, fasting, low carb, low fat, gut health, what's really in processed food, what goes on in factory farming, all sorts. That's where I get my information from too. Then once you've done all the reading you then have to fine tune it to what works for you. I've been 'dieting' on and off for about 45 years and this is the first time that I've taken weight off and (mainly) kept it off.

Fasting goes back to the start of time, it is practiced in many religions. As long as you have extra pounds your body has the energy to feed on. Keep up the good work Mini.

Mini - I often feel cold just before a good drop - hope that's why you feel cold!
