Thanks Liv and Erika. The doctor didn't mention my weight. I weighed myself at home before leaving to see if my scale and the doctor's scale shows the same weight. My scale has my weight lower by about 1/2 pound. He wants me to go to physical therapy for my back and sciatic nerve. I told him I have really bad pain in my right thigh and calf when trying to sleep.

Thanks Liv - I have no idea how I hurt my sciatic nerve. But I can't even put socks or shoes on my right foot. Thanks Crazycat - it's funny at my doctor's office. He told me to call physical therapy today to get started with that treatment and wants me back in 3 months to see how I'm doing. Then the receptionist told me the person who does referrals in the office is out for the next 2 weeks. Small town, at least they have doctors and a local hospital.

Fritzy, try Bob & Brad on YouTube. They have a whole series of videos on sciatic exercises. Can get you through until PT is back. I find mine acts up when I sit too much.

Yes, sitting too much kills my back too. Then when I stand up it's a minute or two before I can walk. It took me a while to really understand the pain in my leg from sciatica was from my back.

Thanks Katsolo and Snowwhite. My doctor appointment motivated me to move more. I've been resting with a heated throw under my leg which really helps with the pain. He told me rest is good, but I also need to move and stretch. Today I took Bobby for a walk, longer than when I usually start walking again. I hope to walk a little more every day. Bobby was excited, when I don't get any exercise neither does he except for when I let him run around the back yard for a little.

This is a good day. I deal with sciatic nerve pain all the time. I take meds and they help, but the pain is unrelenting. I hope soon I will have a procedure done that will take the pressure off the sciatic nerve.

You can get sciatica from aging spinal disks similar to arthritis in the spine or from sitting wrong for too long and usually the pain is from the contraction of the muscles affected by the sciatic nerve being compressed. The one thing that helps me is to stretch as I was shown by a physical therapist. I don't take anything stronder than ibuprufen for pain and I definitely exercise more than I used to.

Diehard - sorry you have to deal with the pain too. This is new for me. My doctor says it's probably related to my other back pain and a disc out of alignment. He has told me several times that I probably have a pinched nerve or nerves and losing weight will help. Thanks Abba. I'm going to try to exercise more. I've been pretty sedentary since the back pain started since it feels better if I don't move. But my doctor said I need to move more and I did get a prescription for 800mg ibuprofen. The pain in my calf was so bad the other night I couldn't sleep. The pain med helped me get some sleep last night. During the day the pain isn't so bad.

A good chiropractor can help you with this.

Thanks Erika - I went to a chiropractor a couple of times. Stopped going because my insurance wasn't paying. I am now going to physical therapy
