Welcome to pre-maintenance! This is question for my own curiosity - how does Keto differ from weight loss to maintenance? Do you level off at a particular weight naturally? I heard that in maintenance - folks cycle in and cycle out but not sure what that actual means or looks like. Like how do you stop weight loss on keto?

Yeah Courtney it is not all that clear. Stopping weightloss is more of a problem than I thought it would be. Dr Atkins suggested increasing carbs slowly both in quantity and in kind, trying smaller portions of foods you may have excluded. The trick here is to do it very slow and evaluate as you go My current approach is slowly to eat more of all macros and see where that take me. Keto is a fairly wide concept and people don't all do keto the same way. Some fast, some are carnivorous, some eat higher carb, some lower, some count calories and some don't etc So it is the same with maintenance. Judging by what I see here and other keto groups I hang out in, keto maintainers work it out individually. Some definitely cycle a bit using fasting or/and ketosis, some remain low carb and just tighten if they find themselves putting on weight. Some move over to a standard diet counting calories. Some do a mix of things. I think it is good. We did not all get overweight for the same reasons and we should probably tailor our diet to fit our needs and our shortcomings.

@Mrsroboto, Bella, Keyten77, AboutMyTribe. Thanks so much. Yeah I started increasing my food amounts in August ended up losing more than the previous month probably because I did not increase my carbs. So I am working on upping my carbs. Well Betty as you can see from this and also if you look around eating very low amounts is not always the best approach.

I'm still digesting this: "Dr Atkins wrote that you need to remember that in many ways you will always be fat; meaning that even when you get thin the issues that made you fat have not been miraculously cured. So when planning long term holding diet you have to take that in account as well as using the things you found worked will for you when you were losing the weight as tools to maintain the weight." Very thought provoking.

To me as well. I'm going thru a 'I want quantity' mode lately - so huge kitchen sink salads to keep the calorie total lower. It's not hunger - it's just wanting to eat to be eating. I feel that's fat me rearing her head so I'm trying to keep her satisfied without losing my way until 'fat me' goes dormant again.

I think that is true as well Moufette. Body wants you to not lose. I do not think there have been any studies on how long that lasts for...If the body gives up and says whatever. LOL The only tool against that is monitoring carefully I think.
