Talu's Journal, 17 June 2020

Ugh. So committed, and yet there's always a monkey wrench thrown at you, isn't there...Even with daily weigh ins - logging food, etc, it didn't occur to me how far into June we are. On Monday, I begin a cross-country trip to go bring my daughter back home. Long story short - in Jan I brought her out to do an internship - which was put on shutdown mid March. School had no clue as to whether they were going to accept the hours she had put in, so it had been a waiting game as to when she would be coming home. I will be driving (solo) 8-10 hours a day - stopping long enough to sleep each night. I am freaking out over not being able to do my Atkins diet on the road. Went outside to hill potato plants just to keep from stress eating. Anyone have a good (easy) suggestion for diet swap? I have lived Atkins for so many years, I don't even know if anything else will work.

Good luck on your trip. I usually pack a cooler when I'm on a road trip like that for my daytime meal. Evening you can pick a place that you can order the way you want to keep on your WOE. Also, atkins shakes and bars might be something to consider. I hope that helps

Thanks - I have tried the bars, but I am not a sweet eater - (don't even drink soda!) and find them too sweet for me. I do have a cooler that is usually full of water - that I drink a lot of - I have another cooler from a friend that plugs right into the car, and has an adapter for a house plug as well!! I can now bring perishables that I was concerned about! Feeling a little better about it! So appreciate your help! :D

Why can't you do atkins? Pack a cooler full of food and do what you can. Otherwise- let it go for a few days and count your calories.

Don't sweat it. I travelled all over doing Atkins. But also if it is not possible eating something else is not a problem. I would do bunless burgers... stop at supermarkets for salads and cold cuts and yogurt and cottoage cheese and cheese and almond milk and boiled eggs and ...

You can find salads and proteins just about everywhere nowadays. Drive safely, there's a lot of crazy drivers out there!

If you fall off the wagon, just jump back on when you can, I know ,I've done it about 10,000 times, well maybe even more because I'm old, but I jumped back on !!! You can do this !!!

You guys are amazing. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the help. I normally travel with my honey in our conversion van (fridge, stove, grill, etc.) but this time it's solo in my car - and I just got overwhelmed. With every state being at different stages of open/closed - I freaked out a little (HA! A LOT!) over petty things, and never even thought about being able to go into a grocery store! (ugh - I need a younger brain!!) I have had my meltdown, and have moved on - with a lot of thanks to all of you! Of course the use of my friends awesome cooler helped a lot too! (Gonna get me my own!) I GOT THIS!! Again, and I can't express how much it means to me.... THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Good luck it will all go smoothly, download apps like Grubhub to see restaurants open for takeout in the towns your driving through/stopping in. If there’s scarce restaurants with the right food, stop off at a market and grab some good veg, dairy, and protein. Pack some hard boiled eggs even. Also something that helps me with long drives, squeeze some lemon juice and pour into a tiny spray bottle. When u feel urself battling that dreaded road trip sleepiness, spritz a bit on your tongue. The citric acid actually sends weird signals to your brain that somehow help you stay alert. It’s also refreshing! Be careful and enjoy the trip, sounds like it could be a fun adventure.
