Atkins Induced Social Anxiety
Palm Springs wrote:
Biggest thing for me has always been to be firm with my family and friends about my diet plans. Them being un-sensitive to my hard work is about as rational as them waving alcohol in front of an alcoholic. I needed support and expected it from those who love me.

But at the end of the day, there are daily examples when I am in a situation where there is little to no atkins-friendly food being served. And so, I pass on the food completely and just think of my steak waiting at home. If I break my diet during the first three stages, I am only training my body to expect treats and breaks. I like to think of the diet as a life change and nothing less so I am militant with myself. Once I am at the weight I want, of course I can have exceptions from time to time. But allowing them during the first three stages is not mentally nor physically healthy for me.

I could not agree more. It is important to share with family and friends what it is you are doing so that they can help and support. we cant depend solely on all of us on here.Wink I also follow the same approach in being very strict and following the deit in great detail with no exceptions. If we are honest with ourselves, we know what we need to do to loose weight. We have the congnitive ablility and knowldege. However, we make excuses and allow ourselves treats. I firmly believe that this mentality of allowing excuses and treats is the exact mentality that got me to where i am today. Overweight and unhappy with my body. So, I make sure everyone knows and to steal from Reina let the wait-staff know about my allergies...

Atkins Induced Social Anxiety
I thought I would start a conversation on how people handle different situations that arise in their experiences with social outings and staying within the plan for their daily carb intake. Yes, we may all be on a diet that is restrictive but not too many others are and maybe, just maybe, we might like to go out and socialize with the "others".

The reason for this post is my job will frequently put me in a positon where I will be talking with clients at a happy hour for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and we all know that alcohol and bruchetta is the death of induction. So, how do you all handle these situations and keep them from being socially awkward.

Feel free to add personal experiences such as first dates, family reunions, church lunches. etc

Be real but have fun!

Cured Meats & Nitrites - be careful!
Great topic! I think Dr Atkins would agree with everything you have posted on this topic. Hydrogenated oils are a hot topic in the news media right now. With resturaunts going hydrogenated free, and all the like. The Atkins plan has addressed this years ago and the rest of the health world is catching up. (Not unlike a lot of Dr Atkins thoughts and studies.) One of the best summations of the Atkins diet I have ever heard, and I am known for repeating, is that the diet is simply anything you would find on the outer walls of the grocery store. Fresh foods without preservatives. Thanks for the reminder and the information. I too am now interested in finding nitrate free meats.
