Fitting in beer??
I would like to still be able to drink one night a week as I don't intend to quit long term and I am trying to be careful to not commit to any "diet" that I won't be able to maintain after my goals are reached.

To that end I want to be able to include beer (like Michelob ultra) one day a week to the tune of 6-7 beers.

How can I do that?

Initially I figured I would just add a bit more excersize and cut down calorie/carb count for that day but I wonder if that is going to throw my metabolism out of whack. Would it be better to just accept the ~500 calories as an addition and stay with my regular food intake levels or adjust food levels to account for the added empty calories that the beer is adding?

Also are there any other pitfills I should be aware of regarding alcohol sabotaging my goals?

Appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

Thanks!

tips for a beginner ?
hey all,

i have just recently decided to get to work on getting into shape but haven't been following any specific program other than trying to keep a decent net loss in calorie in-take and keep carbs and fats relatively (to me) low.

could use some advice as to how i can improve or if there are any major blunders i am making. i have a good amount of muscle mass from having previously lifted and numerous physical jobs in my youth so i am not interested in bulking up in that manner at all... i just want to trim the fat.

i started a bit more than 2 weeks ago though was pretty lax the first week. my actual starting weight (prior to finding this site) was 200. so down 12 so far. i would like to keep up the pace i am currently at though i realize that won't happen without a lot more work.

also i am wondering what harm (if any) i am causing myself by working arms every day? the weight setup i have doesn't allow for much outside of arm workouts. i keep the arms workout fairly moderate though as my goal is just to burn calories. am i causing myself harm in doing so? should i alternate doing cardio only every other day and a heavier arm workout (with less cardio) on the other days?

also i am curious about my fat and carb in-takes. i try to keep my calorie in-take above 1300 and below 1500. if the calorie measurements on this site are to be believed then i am anywhere from -1300 to -1600 a day.... though the scale has been showing me (up until today anyway) as losing a pound a day. i thought 3500 calories equaled a pound? but i am not complaining with the greater than expected losses. i am just not expecting it to keep up much longer unless i push myself harder.

appreciate any advice any of you can offer. thanks!
