Woot! After seeing the scale slowly creep back up to 277 on Atkins the last week - Now after only 24hrs on the Fuhrman plan - down 2.4lbs in 24 hrs!!! So excited. Today I am having meat, though. I bought a duck last week and I'm cooking it tonight. I also still have a chicken in the freezer. I might get DH to do a beer-butt on the BBQ this weekend. The plan is to follow the new plan 100% after September. Mark will still need chicken, and he'll probably eat dairy at work. I'm OK with this, whatever works for him, as long as I don't find it too tempting to have these foods around and I am NOT tempted by skinless, boneless chicken breast. Now beef, on the other hand.....

Big 1/2 cantaloupe with strawberries and flax for breakfast, huge salad for lunch. I tried mixing up a little nonfat dressing - garlic, lemon, balsamic, sesame. OK, but not having fat on salad will take some getting used to. I was actually eating my greens with my fingers, like they were chips. Weird but it helped me get it down. I think tonight is a smaller salad and cooked greens with perhaps spaghetti squash and marinara. I really hope my tastes and body can adjust to this way of eating permanently. Because is seems like if I can adjust to this - there is no way I could possibly be fat!

While feeling my heart beat out of control again, I was watching Dr Fuhrman on Dr Oz yesterday. I listened very carefully to his plan and then bought his book for my Kindle. I like the idea of a longevity diet because right now my main concern is that my eating is going to make me die young. I think that it's part health problems and part watching my father die young (42) that has me worried. So worried that I'm losing sleep over it. So I had an Atkin's friendly breakfast - then an apple for a snack. I still have a lot of meat in the freezer to clear out so I think I'll be doing this in phases. I'm not counting carbs (still counting calories). Not adding any processed food - and gradually getting rid of all the meat and cheese. Then increasing my veggie and fruit intake.
The six week "kick-start" plan - 1 lb raw veggies, 1 lb cooked veggies, 1 cup legumes, 4 fresh fruits (all these foods are unlimited)
No more that one serving of cooked starchy veggies or grains, 1oz raw nuts or seeds, 2oz avocado, 2 tbsp dried fruit, 1 tbsp ground flaxseed.
Off limits - dairy, animal products, between meal snacks, fruit juice, oils.
This will be tough. But I think I'm pretty tough too!
