Within the last 3 years I have had the worst sprained ankle the emergency doctor had seen apparently(1st yr), last year I had bronchitis and shingles at the same time and this year I suspect I had crushed my meniscus in my left knee. I had no insurance so couldn't get it looked at so I just stopped training and listened to my body. I didn't know it was my meniscus but from everything I read it sounded the most logical.
I rested it for 2 months, working but no running. I hadn't been stretching lower body. A mistake i paid for. I had done gymnastics and martial arts when i was younger but i hadn't kept stretching up. I would walk to warm up and then lightly start stretching t-band, quads, hamstrings. Some shallow lunges slowly towards the splits. I still remember many moves.
After 3/4 months of this I restarted jogging again in september 2013 and touch wood no knee problems. It is maybe 98% which is good enough for me.
I'm looking to maintain my fitness and healthy eating. I'm on the way to achieving my goal weight and when I do I want to put a little back on my arms and shoulders.
But this is long term for me and I feel I must be focused until I'm happy with lifes changing ways.
