I’m a Gen X Male living on the Big Island of Hawaii. Most of my life I have been relatively fit to very fit. A few years back I was promoted to my incompetency level as the Chief Science Officer for a State agency. I became a work-a-holic. I have always worked out at a gym and I have been teaching yoga (15yrs) and spin classes (1.5 yrs), I increased my weight to a record high of 220 lbs in late December 2018. Started to cut calories in a traditional way in January 2019 but changed little else. By March my progress plateaued. I decided to walk 4 miles everyday, and realized additional weight loss but plateaued again. With these two changes, I successful reduced my weight by 10 lbs over a six months period. In mid July 2019, started a Keto Diet. This was a foreign concept for me, as it goes against everything that was taught to me over the past five decades. I watched the low carb diet lecture series from Denver and Australia and began to see the Big Fat Lie that was being promoted by the US Gov. Immediately I began seeing results from the Keto Diet. I’ve been on the Keto Diet for 6 weeks and have lost 10 lbs. I don’t feel hungry or as my wife would say “Hangry”. The foods I eat are what I would have eaten in the 70’s, when I was a kid, and before fat was stigmatized as evil. I will continue to track my progress utilizing the FatSecret tools. It's now 2022 and I'm still on a low carb diet. Lost 36 lbs and have been weight stable for a year. Blood pressure has been reduced, and I'm no able to eat only one meal a day. I continue to exercise and noticed that I don't need to eat before or after a session. I normally run in the morning 4 - 8 miles during the work week, and go for a long run on the weekends. Don't seem to be hungry after my runs during the work week and can last approximately 24 hours before I eat again. Wishing everyone luck on there journey to a new you, regardless the path you take!
