Hi I'm 46 and stumbled on this site after buying my 1st Android phone Dell Streak) in Jun 10 and saw Fatsecrets Free App on Android Market. Think it’s a superb application and am looking to use it to get to and maintain a level of health and fitness as a result. Am carrying maybe 8lb's of weight which is not excessive but the added years are making it harder to keep the unwanted weight off. My goal is to have a shot at playing some of the best Rugby of my career this season so am in pre-season training right now. Started playing Rugby again last year (as a Veteran . . sob) actually more of a "Drinking Club with a Rugby Problem" after a 20+ year retirement from the game . . so feeling very flabby and unfit: have used the gym over the last year periodically but in addition have recently started running at lunchtimes at work to get CV fitness and with the gym work hope to develop core strength to bolster my game for the upcoming season. I don’t expect my weight to drop, if at all but expect it to stabalise or increase as my dietary/fitness regime. These changes in BMI & BFI whilst carefully watching the dietary and exercise data in Fatsecret App is a real bonus; really being able to measure progress is something I am really looking forward too.

5 tips from a beginner
. . Great tips Jason; just to add, keep the calories in the negative by sustained exercise; it’s the key! If you go over your daily allowance just take on the challenge and up your exercise routine a small amount for as long as it needs to get back on track and onwards to your ideal weight. What a sense of achievement that will bring. You eat an elephant, “One bit at a time” it’s the same with weight loss; little steps but don’t stop doing it because you wont get the result your looking for. If you carry on doing what you did before! How can you expect a different result?

cave man diet
. . this model whilst logical and perhaps metabolically correct from a hunter gatherer point of view back in the day, doesn’t take into account the calories that would have been expended during day to day subsistence living and foraging which would have been extensive. Regardless of the calories consumed, or when they where consumed unless these and any additional calories are not metabolised away through day to day activity then weight gain is a given.
