I have been overweight all my life. No, there was a time, for a few years I had shed all the weight and was "normal". It was such a great feeling but slowly but surely it came back.

I am a mother of three grown girls, had to raise them by myself after my husband passed away. Hope I did a somehow good job ;-)
This indicates that I am not that young anymore. 51 and very spirited! I am a German moved to the US 4 years ago, living now in CT.

It is time to think about me now. Getting older does not really help to achieve goals easily, every day it gets more difficult. But I am determined to manage. This is my second start and I am confident.

Time for an update.
I have been here on and off, lost weight, fell off the wagon and gained again. Conclusion - I have not been able so far to really change to a healthier lifestyle.

I am starting again, not giving up on myself. It is for me, for me to feel good, for me to be healthy, for me to .... (fill in the blank)

Here I go again, another start. I am having a difficult year. It is time to change this and focus on making things get better.
Well, as you can see I changed my image again *lol* now more blonde for now!

It did not get better, it got far worse. As I see it right now I am out of the valley and on my way up - I am here!

In the meantime I became a Meemaw... 2 beautiful girls born 4 weeks apart. I love them sooooo much.

Well, I am back. I need to feel better, need to feel (a)life again - should be enough motivation.

Where is everyone from?
Born and raised in Germany I live now in Connecticut for 8 years, 5 of them in SE CT. A very rural area... out in the woods, the middle of nowhere I call it.
Love it to be surrounded by forests and fields though in my particular case I have a neighbor within eye-shot. A good thing it is since he helps me out a lot (snow blowing, mowing, etc.) and I am very thankful for it.

Can you do Atkins without veggies?
but I can eat carrots and 'small onions', but broccolis and the ones like that, I feel like throwing up when I eat them, it's serious aversion, very hard to explain.

What are the likes? How about tomatoes, peppers, avocados? These are the veggies I eat most although I don't have a problem with anything (except cucumbers Cool )

Question: carbs in 'free' foods
they are your net carbs and need to be counted. Don't worry, main thing is to get 12-15 net carbs from foundation veggies.

Shewiz - we all encounter the problem of not being hungry at some point. You can add calories easily with adding some olive oil etc to your veggies or have some avocado. You will see, you'll get the calories together.

Hi there -I tend to forget the numbers so I always look up ctlss, one of the moderators here.
"As for the protein and fat, a rough pie chart is to try to aim for about 55-60 percent of your calories from fat, 35-40 percent from protein, and 5-10 percent from carbs."

Marialife147 - if you entered all your food into the diary you are doing pretty good. You can check that on the pie chart at the bottom of the page.

Shewiz - as for being in induction, carrots are not on the list of foundation veggies and should not be eaten now. You can find the list on
Also make sure you have at least between 1200 and 1400 call/day, if not more right now. Otherwise your body will go into starvation mode and
you will stop losing weight.
