Okay, it's time to climb out of my gorilla suit and show my face here. I'm about 5 lbs down since this pic, but it is so rare that I am photographed, I thought I'd be really brave today and post it. I'm with my beloved of 36 years, Jeff, and our cherished granddaughter of nine years! I may not keep the picture up, but it is a major step for me just posting it -- like getting back on the scale!!

Had a wonderful time at the jazz festival. Great weather, and great music. A little off track on the eating, but not horribly so, and I'm cool with it. Everybody needs a day off now and then!

It's been strange lately. First, I have some inner ear infection, and every time I stand up or move suddenly, I feel "out of body" and stumble. We have been dosing my ear canals with peroxide, and hope to wash out the residue this morning. Slows down the aerobic exercise, I can tell you!

Then, months ago we bought tickets for the Indianapolis Jazz Festival when we heard that Aretha Franklin was going to be the top bill. She is my music hero, along with Joplin, so it was a dream of a lifetime to go hear her live. Well, went online Thursday to check out the schedule details, and she has cancelled! John Legend is filling her spot. He's fine, but she is AWESOME. So, we head over for the festival today. Rather disappointed, but that's life, I guess.

Then, my 83yo m-i-l had an appointment at the heart center, which she thought was to replace her pacemaker. I made myself a lunch, brought mags, my iPod and laptop, planning on being there all day long. They call for her, and I told them that I would slip out for about 30 minutes to run an errand. When I returned, she was waiting for me. WHAT??? Turns out, they just wanted to do the preliminary check, and we have to schedule the replacement in Springfield--2 1/2 hours away, and it will be an overnight! Oh, GREAT!!!

Needless to say, I've had my fill of surprises for awhile. [grumbling to self as I shuffle off for more coffee]

I just felt thinner when I woke this morning. Yesterday I really pushed the water, did my exercise, had a small bowl of Kashi with ff milk for breakfast, a protein fruit smoothie for lunch, and sauteed red cabbage and onion for dinner. (Correcting for being less than program the day before!) So I got on the scale, and could see, through my blurry vision, an unexpected number. I got off the scale, put my glasses on, and hopped back on the scale. And...HEY!! I lost weight!! Woo Hoo!!! I sure wish I had more mornings like this. I could soooo get used to the great feeling!

What a weekend!! We had horrible storms and flooding throughout the area. Had company in from AZ, and had planned a canoe trip which was cancelled, and reservations for a great restaurant that we couldn't get to because all roads to the city were flooded! But, we had great healthy meals here at home, which were well received, and the altered itinerary turned out well. Then, the second shift of guests arrived Monday evening, exhausted from trying to find their way here through detours and closed roads. Ugh. Those meals went pretty well, also, but after everyone was gone, I took a small detour myself. Oh, crap. Anyway, I'm back on track today, and have to get back into exercising after so many days of good intentions!
Made Bully's cucumber salad, and it is so good! Thanks, Bully!

Been busy giving the house a "deep clean", as company is coming on Friday. Jeff's college roommate and his (thin) wife! Never mind--really, I'm good with it. ANYway, we are having them for the weekend, which turns me into Mrs. Clean for the preparation days! I'm hoping these thunderstorms are passed by weekend, as we are confirmed for canoing on Saturday! Woo hoo! I'm so looking forward to it! It's been a lot of years since our last canoe trip, and I loved it.

I ran across another interesting diet book (my collection is growing!)in Women's First magazine called the
Eat-Clean Diet
. It's very very very healthy, and taking what I've been doing to another level. Anyway, I also found
this website
has lots of good information as well. I want to have a flat belly again. I really really want that! So, that's my plug for today. As items get used up in the fridge and pantry, they will be replaced with healthier versions. But overall, I'm already doing MOST of what Tosca recommends anyway...
