Girl_Illa's Journal, 14 June 2008

It's been strange lately. First, I have some inner ear infection, and every time I stand up or move suddenly, I feel "out of body" and stumble. We have been dosing my ear canals with peroxide, and hope to wash out the residue this morning. Slows down the aerobic exercise, I can tell you!

Then, months ago we bought tickets for the Indianapolis Jazz Festival when we heard that Aretha Franklin was going to be the top bill. She is my music hero, along with Joplin, so it was a dream of a lifetime to go hear her live. Well, went online Thursday to check out the schedule details, and she has cancelled! John Legend is filling her spot. He's fine, but she is AWESOME. So, we head over for the festival today. Rather disappointed, but that's life, I guess.

Then, my 83yo m-i-l had an appointment at the heart center, which she thought was to replace her pacemaker. I made myself a lunch, brought mags, my iPod and laptop, planning on being there all day long. They call for her, and I told them that I would slip out for about 30 minutes to run an errand. When I returned, she was waiting for me. WHAT??? Turns out, they just wanted to do the preliminary check, and we have to schedule the replacement in Springfield--2 1/2 hours away, and it will be an overnight! Oh, GREAT!!!

Needless to say, I've had my fill of surprises for awhile. [grumbling to self as I shuffle off for more coffee]

I hope you still enjoy the concert, even if she's not going to be there! Good luck to grandma!~

I've cut way down on my coffee drinking lately. Up to now I have been fairly addicted to it drinking up to 10 cups in a day. I noticed it making me more tense and interfering with other things in a very subtle way. I suppose a 3 cup limit would be wise but now I am experimenting with a combination of black and green teas along with the coffee. It seems that sitting down and sipping something is what is at the bottom of this habit. I hope the ear infection clears up for you, these can be a little scary to say the least. Insofar as taking care of the elderly is concerned, someday we will be in their shoes exactly, so you should be proud of yourself for going out of your way and helping her. Everything will all come together on the health front if you concentrate on being good to yourself. Good luck Girl_Illa!

Those inner ear problems can really make you unsteady on your feet. Hope that gets better for you soon. My mom is 83 years old too. She is doing fairly well, but since I take her to her doctor's appointments, I think I know just about every doctor in town now...lol Have fun at the festival :D

Well hey, have a great time at the festival anyways! We've been to many concerts and it's disappointing to have someone great cancel, but it happens, I spose. At least your mil only had to wait for little bit and not like a half a day! lol Have a great weekend! :)

Sorry things aren't going your way. Maybe the concert will surpass your expectations and the vertigo will correct itself soon. My MIL is 89 and has a pacemaker. Been there done that so I can relate to that too. Have a good weekend!
