Sigh... so, I've always been fat. However, after having my two precious boys, I have finally decided to lose weight and do additional things that I have never done before (like counting calories and journaling everything), hoping all of this will work. I'm, from Jamaica and not all the foods I am used to are here but I will make it work. I started at 268 lbs but signed up here at 263 lbs. I look forward to this long term experience of healthy eating.

WHY THE SCALES LIE
Thank you Mummydee. I'm so very glad I read this when I'm at a low point in terms of motivation. I will read this often in order to remind myself of the tremendous work I'm doing. Thank you so very much!

Upset my daughter trying to talk to her about her recent weight gain.
I'm commenting on the flip side: I have always been over weight but I've never been this big. My mom would make comments about the bad foods I would have and I did get upset but not because she pointed it out, but because I knew she was right. I still felt like she was judging me and I cried but I felt more guilty because it was true. What made the difference over the years is her encouragement- to lose weight for me but she always reiterated her love and support. She would say I'm beautiful and reminded me to lose weight for no one else. Your daughter may feel down now because she knows what you are saying is true. Start building her confidence and slowly introduce her to some healthier choices (especially quick and easy recipes) . Good luck!

Understanding the total nutritional bits
I'm still in the learning mode myself. I have been reading several sites on this topic. I found this for you http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Goodfood/Pages/food-labelling.aspx

Hopefully that can help.

Where is everyone from?
Hello Everyone. I'm originally from the island of Jamaica but now reside in Toronto Canada. I shop at Wal-mart and Oceans especially for produce and meat; occasionally, No frills and Fortinos. I hardly see any Jamaican styled foods here but I really like being able to track my food intake and there's a lot of good support here on fatsecret. Awesome!
