I'm super happy to see a new low after only 84 hours fasted. Weekend with in-laws went okay foodwise. It was hard on spouse, who said there are no happy memories there for him and visits drain him. He is canceling the Labor Day weekend trip, and I need to respect his decision. Fasting is easier and easier. I look forward to eating days and plan to make a vat of beef and wild rice soup on Sunday. I need to use the FS recipe feature so I can plan protein/kcal measures.

Are you experiencing muscle loss from fasting? I did from not eating breakfast (only lunch and dinner) for about three months. I won't do that again after reading that the body can only absorb so much protein at any one time. Possibly it's not such a good idea for those over 60 since we are already losing muscle from age. At any rate, I've stopped and I can maintain my weight with three appropriate meals.

Without comparative dexascans, I can't say definitively I'm not losing muscle. Anecdotally, I have no loss of strength. I have increased strength and endurance compared to my level of function 2 months ago.

I admire your fasting. I do intermittent fasting 7 days a week 16/8 but am not very good at more than about 20 or 22 hours. Even though we may lose a little muscle temporarily it is more than made up by autophagy where the old cells are broken down and new ones are made. I started it about 5 years ago when my brain started feeling mushy and I scared myself twice driving. It's a proven fact that it helps the brain, and I too feel it. Dr. Fung uses it with his overweight patients to help with their health. I heartily recommend it, it's helped me. I looked up the spelling on Google and this is what it said: "Autophagy (pronounced “ah-TAH-fah-gee”) is your body's process of reusing old and damaged cell parts. Cells are the basic building blocks of every tissue and organ in your body. Each cell contains multiple parts that keep it functioning. Over time, these parts can become defective or stop working." You're on the right track in my opinion and I congratulate you.

16:8 is doable and you can get in your protein easily in those 8 hours. I hope I will be able to maintain on 16:8 one day. I'm putting a lot of eggs in the autophagy basket! I have a spot of loose skin under my chin and I'm watching to see if/when it tightens up!

Congrats on your weight drop! I did a 24hr. fast Sunday evening to Monday evening. I plan to make it a regular part of my health journey Could you please help me understand the purpose/benefits of an 84hr. fast? The information I found recommended not fasting for more than 48hrs.Thanks in advance for any insight you could provide!

"Science of Intermittent Fasting (2022)" Jason Fung https://youtu.be/6aiR1mFD7Gw and "80 lbs Lost with and withOUT autophagy" Dr. Boz https://www.youtube.com/live/82CPlwz6Pmc?feature=share You have spent some time reading about fasting already. These two videos should answer any questions you have. I opted for longer fasts because Dr. Boz recommended 8 consecutive weeks of 72 hour fasts to correct flabby arms. I have over 140 lb to lose (that is a whole person) and I need the skin firming benefit from autophagy as I go along to prevent loose, hanging skin.

Honestly, it's the easiest way forward for me. I gained 107 lb over 5 years and don't want a repeat of that. This is something I can work with indefinitely.
