Katsolo's Journal, 30 July 2023

As previously noted, forgot to change yesterday’s weight in the app, so this looks like a gain. No biggie, that’s not the point of it. Blob is down, muscle up and water is down slightly. I didn’t finish the ahi tuna last night because i couldn’t get the container open and i just wasn’t feeling like the effort was worth it towards 9PM. Will finish it tonight and will resort to dismantling the container with whatever level of destruction is required.

Some personal ramblings. This summer, and quite frankly, this year, need to get their act together. I’m effectively single long term right now as BF has been back east for a solid month tending to family issues. I have been working my ass off, but unfortunately, it’s the kind sitting at a desk in front of the computer and that’s no good. I’ve managed to keep myself in pretty good spirits considering everything by walking and with some close friends. I’m digging out of a lot of deferred maintenance on myself and the house that i didn’t realize was accumulating through the last couple of years. I’m not minimizing anyone else’s trials or traumas. I’m just looking around at my own life.

Things that have saved me; walking, and walking more. People. Taking pictures of things around me. Sunshine and vibrant blue skies. The ocean and everything around it. Doesn’t matter if it’s sunny or not. I go through periods where i want to be left alone, but I’m glad most of the people in my life ignore that. Conversely, i go through periods where i love to be out and about every moment immersed in the sensations of life. I like people, i love to laugh. I love drinking wine with friends, but i have to watch that because it becomes too comfortable too easily.

Doing a little self-assessment this weekend now that i have time to breathe again. Took some new “before” pics yesterday. As things have gotten better from really walking again, i realize there’s more i want to work on. I have been playing with the free weights in the house a little again. That arm i screwed up is better, i can do 10# sets with dumbbells but i have to be careful to keep it stable. Swimming is great and brings me joy every time. I need to adjust the current up again. Yesterday’s swim was great, but i wasn’t working hard enough. Had to do a spontaneous airport run, so wasn’t able to hit that hour swim that i was planning on. Maybe today, we’ll see how much i get done. Might do 15 minutes after without the paddles and see how much faster my stroke rate is. Love looking back at the stats year over year. There’s so much that decreases as we age, that it’s fun to see the things that improve.

Now, for the really boring stuff. I have got to shift my waking hours back and quit staying up into the wee hours of the night. Still getting up around 6:30-7:00, but staying up towards midnight and beyond. I waste so much daylight when i do that. I have been keeping the rule on no TV (music app excluded) during daylight hours. Been mostly no scrolling on the phone with the exception of FS and texting. I don’t think texting is going away, it’s how we communicate these days. FS is mostly for logging, some comments, but less than before.

I have a fridge full of gorgeous fruits and veggies, guess it’s time to make something to eat. Sun is breaking through the marine layer, it’s going to be a beautiful day and i need to find some shorts.

Weekend rules, enjoy the day.

Kat, you are beautiful! I didn't picture you with curly hair. I love it and wish I had fuller hair like you! I hope your BFs issues with his family get resolved . Sounds like you are getting exercise you need, walking and swimming is great! Start light with weights and go to sleep earlier!🩷🩷🩷🩷

Beautiful picture Katsolo!!! I just love your hair! Walking has saved me too, although I prefer to walk alone. I swim with my 2 granddaughters and it’s a fun WO!! I take them once or twice a week as I babysit them 3-4 days a week during the summer. They are like little fish 🐠 🐟 in the water, so it’s a joy to take them swimming!! I also enjoy seeing them just relax and have fun w local friends. A NSV for me is 1yr 7 months ago, when I weighed 182lbs, I could barely use the pool ladder to get out of the community pool, BUT NOW I purposely don’t use the ladder and pull myself up and out on the deep end side wall!! 😮‍💨 but 😁 AND I can (play) throw the grands in the pool with so much more ease. They love it and so do I!!

I’m thinking of this as a new starting point. Now that I’m literally starting over with young dogs, we can go back to canyons and other adventures with no crazy people screaming at me for hiking without a mask (true story). For walking, i’m tracking VO2 and heart rate. I don’t know that we’ll get much more mileage on weeknights due to time constraints, but i can increase weekend mileage some and i’ve got the treadmill for when it’s super hot. We’ve done over 75 miles already in July and I don’t think I’ve gone every day. Maybe try for 90 miles in August. Back to the beach as soon as the crowds go home in a few weeks.

I should clarify, those are walking workouts, not just regular walking.

You are so lovely, Katsolo... such a wonderful person I'm so grateful to "know." It has been such a rough time this year. I hope the joys ahead help to leave the sorrows behind a little better. Cheering for you!!!
