LadyinDenim's Journal, 12 July 2023

60 hours into fast and have lost all the carb water gained since the last fast ended - about 9.5 lb. I entered the FS calculated maintenance RDI for my weight and activity level and stayed under that. I gained about 3 lb a day for three days then lost 2 lb the 4th day. It was interesting to watch. You can really carry a lot of water when you have this much fat. I'm looking forward to losing more body fat over the next 5 days. I am finding that fasting is surprisingly easy now that I'm adapted to it. Dr Boz recommends a weekly 72 hour fast for 8 weeks "to correct flabby arms." She is really big on keto with fasting. I prefer Dr Mindy Pels because she is all about cyclical fasting and including a variety of food including potatoes and sweet potatoes. Her view is that fasting holds the key to robust health with obesity as only one of the conditions it corrects. She wrote "Fast Like a Girl," which recognizes that women's hormone cycles impact all health markers including blood sugar, cortisol, insulin and lipids. She also recommends refeeding with bone broth, probiotics, veg, and protein staggered one hour apart. I'll try doing it that way on Monday.
294.6 lb Lost so far: 25.2 lb.    Still to go: 169.6 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

Great job, Lady!!! 👊 👏 I really enjoy Dr. Boz! After this fast, I'll probably do 18/6 for a week, then start 48's-72's weekly.

hmmmm, and I have not even looked at Dr. Boz, I switched to the 72 just for the autophagy, and because the ADF did not seem to be doing anything. It's just easier to do that 3 days a week back to back you know? I will have to check her out.

I stagger my refeeds Lady D, I start mine with AG1 which is a green drink with Pre & Probiotics, then about an hour later I will eat some berries or a little bit of citrus then an hour or two later I will have scrambled eggs with spinach. By lunch I'm ready for a full meal.

@Deb Dr. Ken Berry I'd awesome as well! I 💜 him! He's got a mouth like mine (in real life). 🤣🙊

With carnivore, you can burn a lot of fat on eating days. I think I'll go with weekly 72 hour fasts for 3 weeks and a 5-7 day fast during week 4, keeping my meals at 18:6. Tomorrow's weight and Monday's weight will give me some math so I can estimate how long it will take to get to Onederland. Fast on!

Boz has a high energy that's hard to watch for me, but she gives lots of good info, so I take her in small doses. Ken Berry is firmly in the carnivore camp. I lean to Pelz, Ekberg, Lustig and Jamnadas.

@Lady I love the high energy of Dr. Boz. Our energy is a match THESE DAYS. Also, it's kinda contagious to me. Dr. Berry... yea, he's in the carnivore camp now, but wasn't always. He started out keto & promoting lots of veggies.

I watch them all and some differences are hard to resolve. How important are the vegetables - poisonous or mandatory? Protein levels? Timing? I like the Dr Boz ratio to calibrate fasting response. I like the simplicity of carnivore, but sometimes I'm hungry for vegs, so I eat them. I get inspiration from them all, but in the end we each need to do what works for our own lives and bodies. @ LadyinDenim I like your plan of weekly 72 hour fasts followed by another 5-7 day fast in a month. I think that's going to work for me too, especially since I've got a one month ambitious goal. So, sista, you're on!

@Erica... I take what I think will work best FOR me from each one (leave the rest) & give it a try. There is always room for tweaking & finding what works best for each one of us INDIVIDUALLY, but we are all in this together! 😘💜

That's what's great about this FS space, we post what we are doing, how we are feeling what we are struggling with. Then something someone says strikes a chord and we follow up on the intuition that this may be the thing to add or subtract. If it helps great, if it does not....well nothing ventured nothing gained. We all have our quirks, likes, dislikes, medical issues, mobility issues, addiction issues. If we were all the same, what a boring place this earth would be. We are doing great you guys!!!!!

As far as what is best for us to eat and in what order. Me myself I read about the histories of native americans and their nomadic seasonal lives. Hunters and gatherers following the food and preparing food to make it through the winter months. Fat was a staple, fruits, nuts and berries were dried and mixed with fat for storage and winter consumption. Fresh meat and fish were plentiful and also dried for winter consumption. The nomadic tribes did not eat much for grain unless they traded for it with the stationary farming indians of the southwest. Root veggies were tossed into pots as they were found and consumed, they were not stored for winter by most tribes. They did not have many issues with being overweight until the colonists brought in trading posts with their barrels of cornmeal, sugar, flour and liquor. I'll end with that. You don't have to go back to the Paleo period to determine what to eat. We have walking talking history's of it within the last 300 years, and even current Inuit tribes in the north that still practice the tried and true ways of eating to survive in extreme cold.

@Zen, the plan we choose also factors in willingness and mental resolve. I know that keto and/or carnivore would yield faster weight loss and opt out because I know I won't sustain it. The freedom from overeating is priceless. I have been overweight over 45 years, so staying big longer is okay as it's what I'm used to. I just needed to find something I could stay with and fasting is it for me. That and portion control. @Erika, I was thinking of having Fri, Sat & Sun as refueling days. This creates a bit of a problem for week 1. It looks like I will break fast Monday morning, then start my 72 Tuesday after dinner, break fast Saturday morning, and do 72s starting Sunday evening the following two weeks.

...and that is just fine, Lady! 😘💜 Congrats on finding what is best for you! 🙂

@Deb, my ancestors are Norwegian, English, and Irish. The nomadic piece is many generations removed. I'm not as sensitive to the assaults of SAD. Am willing to leave soda behind and have already departed from seed oils.

As far as I know of my ancestry, it is German/Irish/Native American. Who knows what else is mixed in there, though...lol.

As far as history & ways of eating, I PERSONALLY am fascinated by the original Inuit diet.

@Zen, Yes indeed, they have such a short period of time for growing or foraging for items other than fat, fish and meat it is interesting to read about! I'm another one of those mutts, my ancestry is french, indian with a dose of African on my mothers side and german, irish, indian on my father's side. , but I guess what I was saying boils down to....all the veggies we have available to us now were not always available to our ancestors and as a species, we not only survived, but thrived anyway.

My ancestors are all northern Euopean; I figure they ate fish, game, dairy, farm animals and anything they could grow or forage in a short growing season. I don't have any of the dairy problems that equatorial peoples do. I figure this might indicate why an animal protein diet works so well for me. Scottish, English, Swedish, American since the 1640's.
