Marymiryam's Journal, 26 March 2023

I am 79 yrs old and live in a Senior Facility where I have little control of how the food is prepared. I am attempting to avoid fried food, battered foods, and sauces in addition to a fish allergy😱

Ask to see a dietitian, get food recommendations from them and a diet plan worked up. Once that's done, the place you are living will have to work within your dietitians plan.

You can ask the management to provide food for different regiments. There might be other people with similar needs, if so you can aplly as a group. Maybe they are nice people and might even consider to make exceptions for you. People in prison got the option to choose vegan meals. Why shouldn't you have options.

Do yo have the option to cook certain things in your unit on days the menu is not condusive to your needs? I know a lot of the senior facilities around here have a small kitchen and the nursing homes they have to cook meals to the diet needs of the residents.

Do they have a dietician there? If so talk to them maybe they could do a no added salt diet or no added fats, something similar as well as the baked not fried options. Or even a 1500 cal limit. If there is one they should be helpful with such options. Good luck. I know sometimes it will be tricky hang in there. Also talk to pt if they have that maybe you could get some bands or if you are mobile get a step tracker and try walking as much as you can as well. Take care!

Welcome to the app. I am amazed at your ability to use this app. My mom ( 84 ) is technically challenged to say the least.

It looks as if you are off to a great start! You will be a model for other, and perhaps be motivation for changes in meals. All the best.
