I have successfully ignored my poor health for a very long time. Six or seven years, maybe longer. I simply gave up.I could explain why, but wallowing in the feelings about some bad things that happened has never done me any good.

In June, for the first time in many years, my work became stressful and I really thought I was going to die. I was scared enough to go to the doctor, get the tests she ordered, and resolve to do something.

The something includes:

Getting my blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure under control
Losing weight
Becoming more active

I've got a long way to go. Fortunately I have a supportive husband, a great son, and a few good friends. That combined with a willingness to learn new things and the decision to follow up on health care might just be what I need to live long enough to enjoy mu retirement in a few years.
