It's good living by the beach. It's also bad living by the beach.

It's good because it is motivating to get in a bike ride or a walk and frankly, relieve some much needed stress I'm going through right now.

It's bad because friends want to visit and vacation here; especially those who live out of state who can enjoy my company (and I theirs of course) and live like on vacation for a few days. They do throw me off track and I guess fortunately, do the food thing, which is usually high caloric. Not to mention the alcohol that comes with it, though I am doing pretty well staying away from it.

So gaining a little under a pound is not so bad right? Last guest is this weekend and the rest of the summer is open.

Sounds like you are doing great!! Would love living by the beach, I often miss the coast. Living smack in the middle of the country.

I know what you're going through with family and friends visiting. Everyone is excited to celebrate getting together, and many times it means being surrounded with all the high caloric foods and drinks. What to do? I experience this usually a couple times a month. My husbands family has always made food the center of every get together. Whether it's dining in with old family favorite dishes or dining out with all the fabulous deep fried foods, or high caloric specialty's. I was just as guilty as the rest of them, but NO more. Bottom line is I know that my family and friends truly want me to be healthy, so when they ask what they can bring, I am ready with healthy suggestions. If they don't like it, and bring something high caloric, just have your own arsenal of clean foods ready. I have introduced my family and friends to some pretty awesome alternatives, and I can only it will rub off on some of them!!! I know what your feeling...hope this helps.

Kathy, though I did have many guests over recently, I did try to cook some meals at home that aren't so caloric. Maybe that's why I didn't gain as much. I prepared some good appetizers or maybe even made a meal out of them. I found this great recipe on Ming's kitchen, a chef on the food network or PBS, I can't remember which. It's a Thai lettuce wrap and you can use chicken, shrimp or pork. Though I don't eat much pork, that was actually my favorite. I've tweeked it a little and can't remember the original recipe but look for Ming's kitchen on google. It's delicious, low cal and everyone loves them. Pair it with a cold beer or Chardonnay and it's hard to beat. Try it next time the family comes over.
