CrystalJo74's Journal, 01 March 2022

Ok...well, today is a very hard & humbling day for me. As some of you know, I have had difficulties with my scale(s) for a long time. My first scale, that I started with on FS, consistently shows about an 8 pound difference (lower) than my new, fancy-pants scale that I bought several months ago. The new scale is super consistent and aligns more closely to the scales at my Dr's office and gives me all kinds of other info like body fat, BMI, water wt, muscle wt but I didn't want to switch over here on FS cuz of the big bump (difference) in the 2 scales.

But I can't fight it anymore...that darn 1st scale is SO random & erratic that I end up weighing on it about 6 times in a row then averaging them! I don't need the aggravation every morning any longer!

So...rather than completely start my weight history over, I'm gonna take the 'bump' today and go from here. No...I haven't gained 8 pounds overnight (though it wouldn't be the end of the world), but it will cost me my beloved "blue line"😭😭😭

The fact is that I weighed in at the Dr's office at 195 in April of 2021 and this morning weighed 142.0 on the dang fancy-pants scale and my BMI has dropped to 25.5. That's 53 pounds I can still be proud of💙💪

That is such a wonderful accomplishment. I am in awe. Congratulations!!!! I feel that the scale and those numbers judge me all the time so I can understand that this is a bit hard

@Shrewd & liv001...Thank you so much. I am literally in tears to still feel valued here and understood. 💙🤗

Good for you, but a caution for all of us. I just assumed my scale was accurate and the week to week variations were due to me. That still could be the case, but it is probably a good idea to use a consistent weight to see how accurate our scales are. I will be checking mine when I get home from work tonight - I wonder if a gallon of milk is heavy enough to be a good test (I sway too much for me to trust me as the weight).

CrystalJo, you have made a wise move with sticking with the accurate scale. 👍 You've done an amazing job taking care of yourself! Keep up the good work. 💕

Thank you Joe. I guess it's extra hard for me cuz I haven't really had a 'gain' of more than 2 pounds since I started here on the app. It is an unfamiliar & disappointing feeling...but now I can so much more empathize with others here that face true gains like this at times. But I WON'T let it keep me down!!💪💙

I SOOO get you! When I started I weighed at the Y. Then to ck I measured at home-I had already posted my weight. Got on my digital scale…. 4 pounds heavier!?!? Ugh🙁 so I sucked it up and used the heavier scale… I checked again at the Y and it was totally higher so I’m sticking w the home one, it’s more consistent. Hang in there gurl!!

@mattstoc...I tested the new scale with some free weights I have here and it is accurate. The other one won't even let me weigh something inert. (p.s...I sway too on the scale sometimes)

@Becky...thank you so much for your kind words. I'm determined to get my 'blue line' back!! Just sucks to have to do it over again...ya know?

@sandybeach...you are so kind! I have been losing weight consistently with the more accurate scale too and recording BOTH weights on my daily progress sheets. So it's not that I'm actually gaining right now, but I'm not at the number on the scale I had hoped...does that make sense?

I feel your pain. Went to Dr. office and weighed in with quite a shock about a month ago; part of what got me here, along with my cholesterol numbers. I was able to adjust my scale so it would match Dr. office numbers and go from there. We've got this!

Great job! I hate scales too, both the basic and fancy digital ones. They’re not consistent.

Does your scale read your BP? If so, I’d LOVE to get a scale like that!

@sandybeach...my scale doesn't, but my FitBit does! 🤣

@kylier...the pain is real😕 but you are absolutely right! Time to dust ourselves off and go from here!! We DO have this!!💪👍🙏

@peacockre...I wonder if those old-fashioned kind with the sliding weights are more accurate? 🤔
